Hi everyone,
My friend and I are looking for livery for 2 geldings and a colt. Has anyone heard of anything? Colt is very quiet and is turned out with the geldings. The owner would prefer not to have him gelded, particularly at this young age, but would be willing to if he became a nuisance...
Thanks. Great idea. Part of my reasoning behind choosing to rescue is because I've never had a horse before. I know I can do the jobs etc because I have part loaned / shared. And I've done all the calculations to check that I can afford the financial contributions and all the lights seem to...
Thanks. I am currently a part loan / sharer and have enjoyed it very much. Now looking to take on my own :-). Should have maybe said that in OP. I lost my confidence about 10 years ago in an accident where I came out hurt. I was lucky to get away without really injuring myself badly...
Hi everyone,
I'm currently looking for my first horse. I've decided I definitely want to rescue but I'm finding it a bit difficult to find a suitable horse.
My first problem, which I anticipated, is that I lack confidence. I'm looking for a horse that is good for a nervous rider...
No worries. I am currently sharing a 14.1 pony. Perhaps a little on the small side given my height but he's a lovely little pony. It's about an hour round trip to his farm is the only down side. I'm starting to consider rescuing my own horse :-) xx
Hmm...as the person on the other end of this, I actually think it should be OK as long as it's a reasonable ask - you could justify by explaining what things are costing - I know people don't like talking money but if you can, I would be more open to it if the owner explained the cost of things...
Thanks Barnacle. Yes, I was confident with canter. And I was riding out hacking with my friend on her horses (I was riding her cob) and taking the lead in canter across open fields etc. I've actually asked her if we can try and do a bit more of this over the next few weeks as this might help...
Thanks bepositive. I probably should have said more about this; my instructor is actually a friend from work - she's a qualified instructor and has been great. Throughout the summer, she worked really hard with me to help me build up my confidence and when I told her I was afraid she told me...
Oooh I love thinking up names:
I'm not sure what you mean by 'grown up' hehe so I may be well off the mark...
Rosie
Poppy
Holly
Ginny
Piper
Or you could call her something Welsh. Like:
Anwen (Which apparently means 'very beautiful' in Welsh)
Betrys
Or here's a list of Welsh names...
Hi everyone,
I was really excited when I first decided I was going to look for a horse. Due to my job (a full time teacher), and discussions with others, I decided that a part-loan or share would be the best option for me. I had a confidence knock about 10 years ago and I'd been back in the...
Oh poor you. I really feel for you. I too have come back to riding after a break of several years. It's not easy at all and, like me, you're being very hard on yourself. It was your second lesson. And to be honest, the description of what you did matches perfectly what I would have done on...
Thanks Shay - that explains quite a bit. I think Petplan sounds a good bet but I'm maybe thinking I need to speak to the lady I'm loaning off first to talk about what is required in terms of costs - that might aid me in deciding what level of cover I need.
Thank you again.
With regards to...
