    sand school, arena, manege rules

If you let others use your school what rules do you stipulate and why? For example, pick out hooves before entering so organic matter can't be taken in, rot down and block drainage; no lungeing in case horse props and digs down to membrane.

Ballyhaunis Breeze/ Bud's choice - Anyone know the breeder?

Miss B and Irish gal, thank you so much for responding to this thread. How exciting! I had forgotten about it to be honest. Well 2 years on from buying Bud's Choice (Buddy) he has turned into the horse love of my life! He is such a kind, gentle-man, that is until we get on the hunting field and...

    Irish draught youngstock

Sorry can't help on the sires front, but I was in a very similar situation to you exactly 2 years ago and went for an I'D x irish cob. If my experience is anything to go by you will become a very happy person! My calm geldings ID sire is Ballyhornan Breeze. Buddy does everything you are wanting...

    Combiride/Clopf/Alternative Surface

I realise this is an old thread, but does anyone have an update on how you fared with the choice for Flexiride? I am tossing up between the Flexiride and a Clopf-a-like. Just been to see a Flexiride top up school used by a riding school and they had nothing but positives to say. I would like...

If you were a horse what would your conformation be like?

16.1hh bay tb x mare, 10 years old but already roaning out. 2 wall eyes. Well let down hocks but long in the back. Good length of rein. Needs work to build up top line. Quiet, however can be prone to backward thinking in new situations (due to short-sightedness). Farrier's nightmare as needs...

    Clipped cob youngster

In the long term it will be better for him to get experience. He doesn't have to be placed this time or even this season. It is all about the experience. So I say take him and talk to anyone who asks why he looks the way he does. Educate THEM!!! Have fun! :)

big mental step forward with baby horse today!

My nearly three year old quantock pony has often walked out in hand with us since we got him as a 5 month old weanling, sometimes with long gaps between, where he has been a bit challenging, nothing dangerous just rather like a toddler touching all the sweets at the supermarket checkout, in...

    She *Now* Loads Herself! :D

So how did you do it and how often? Mine is also a very very reluctant loader. I managed it the other day because he was untacked and I had a herbal treat or two up my sleeve. Sat there prepared for it to take hours like normal and he more or less walked straight on (mutters under breath, but...

How much does an arena cost?

Sorry, I may not have read really thoroughly. What does CB stand for, as in 'CB leaning fence option'?

    Spot on advice

My local Moles agri shop thingy always asks. Good luck. Vet coming out soon and told to bring something to deal with feather mites. I'm just hoping she does!

Show me your homemade hay bars

No experience of oldies, but have made my own hay bar. I used thick ply that was still thin enough to bend, and cut it into a triangle shape with the top angle cut off, so that when this was turned upside down and fixed to the wall it would leave a gap, now at the bottom of the upside down...

    Barefoot Winnie

Did you need boots? Mine hasn't been ridden for 3 months, with shoes off for the last 4 weeks so I need to build him up slowly again I suspect. Hoof trimmer has let me down twice so where I was waiting to hear his advice, I am now thinking I should just get on with it. He has 1 or 2 lame steps...

New PAS riding hat for hunting?

My velvet ridinghat needs replacing. What would you do? Should I go modern and get one of those new fangled shaped hats like Charlotte Dujardin wears, which is more likely to have the new PAS standard, in the remote hope that one day I will do something affiliated as I am finding it hard to find...
