I work flexi-time, so can start anywhere between 8-10.30 am and finish between 4.30-7pm. Although having said that, we are a small-ish office, so our flexi time is sometimes dependant on what is going on. I work between 40-50 hours a week, including overtime.
I have a horse on assisted DIY...
My previous horse was.
I purposely didn't go looking for another rescue horse, not because I don't want to do it again at some point - I do, more than anything. But, I was SO emotionally drained after going through so many, quite extreme, ups and downs with him through his rehabilitation and...
Handful of Hi-Fi light & half a cup of Bailey's lo-cal balancer, twice a day.
At night he gets one haynet (which he never finishes) & is out on not-so-brilliant grazing. But he is a fat-prone native - he isn't just starved! :D
To be fair, I've never sold - only ever bought. But, buying is a pretty grim experience, possibly made worse by the fact I was only re-looking due to having my old horse PTS. I found the buying experience horrendous - pushy (or plain odd) owners, horses not as advertised or not right for...
I'm in Surrey and paying:
£108 pcm for DIY livery, including:
Large, brick built stables (at least 17 x 17)
365 day a year turn out (overnight in summer, out from about 7-3.30/4pm in winter)
Indoor sandschool - with jumps.
Lorry/trailer parking
Early morning and night checks by YM
Good hacking...
Just keep your head down, keep out of it and get on with enjoying your horse :)
I'm lucky as for the most part, I'm on a nice yard - their is the odd silly person (or person who believes they are better qualified, a know it all or whatever), but there are silly people I work with or silly...
Have an indoor school, so ride anyway. I will hack in the rain, but tend not too if absolutely torrential but if it is just normal rain, then don waterproof trousers and coat and head out anyway.
For summer rain, horse remains un-rugged and just has to tough it out - there is shelter in their...
Just doing a bit of research really...
*Where do you buy your feed, and why?
Local Feed merchant -prices are competitive, a good range, the store is located close to work (so easy to pop in and out of without driving miles out of my way), they stock a wide range of other tack, rug...
I had a thoroughbred and now have a cobbier good doer type and the money i now save is immense!
~buy the best quality you can be it rugs, tack, hay or feed.
~Sometimes using the assisted services works out cheaper for me - £1.50 for bringing in and changing rugs is cheaper than petrol for...
My old boy had arthritis but he was a real wimp so was always quite well rugged, i do think that rugging helps to keep them warm and lessen arthritis but as you say being overweight won't really help either. I guess it is a case of ascertaining which is the least of the least two evils. If...
Surprisingly, ours are looking rather green still! Last year they were pretty bad and we were having to supplement with hay from about this point onwards but our ym has worked really hard at improving the fields, happily.
