Horses don't seem to be selling down here at all. People seem to have irrational expectations. We are currently selling a sweet 12hh "companion or project". He's a perfect companion but has been knocked about and yanked round under saddle and is very nervous when ridden. We were mis-sold him as...
I have a very hot, sharp, mare who I was working through the classical dressage training lines. We became completely stuck at the canter transition where she would repeatedly throw her head violently up, often hitting me I the face. I had numerous lesson and all areas improved other than this...
It is tricky as she is a riding school pony however I do have a few confident lightweight jockeys who could give a good crack with the stick. Daughter not yet as is too small and dreamy to react. Also I have to say i shamefully lost my temper a bit with pony this morning for repeatedly going out...
Any thoughs appreciated.
Daughter (age nearly 4) has an 11hh Dartmoor mare. Age 10. Bought last summer, she had previously been ride and drive by an elderly man (!) only ever hacked and never cantered or jumped. Kept only with her brother.
She has taken to her new life fantastically. She...
All the work appeared to be on the right rein except for one brief half circle left for which she did not change her diagonal. Would put money on a pelvic issue or similar which rider is trying to disguise. Feel sorry for horse but looks like a long term project to me.
I've worked on yards where I've had 30 horses to muck out, water, hay in a day on my own. But standards were not very high, with that sort of number you cannot keep up high standards through an entire winter, you get too run down. Most people can manage a huge yard on a short term basis, it is...
Mine lasted one and a half winters but were completely knackered by the end. Lining went, they collapsed through the length and they were NEVER waterproof. Spent last winter suffering wet feet. Pretty but would class them as a fashionable boot, not a work boot.
Thanks for this, I will mention it to the vet.
In good news, mare is much better today. We went for a little stroll in hand around the indoor sand school as she is soooooooo bored. She was a little footy on the way down to the school - however it is stoney and she is not shod yet so not...
Thank you everyone, to try to answer questions...
the digital pulse was present I think the shaking was muscle fatigue, she has no fat pads or anything, in fact is not an easy weight carrier, she lacks muscle tone atm as she has only been backed about 6 weeks.
In good news she is LOTS better...
sorry, h/f is handfull ie hardly any, just enough to get the bute into her.
The spinal thing was because she appeared rooted to the spot, with her back legs under her, they were shaking (probably from the strain of the position) - it looked nuerological. When forced to move, she staggered...
Thank you so much everyone. First to say, she is not my mare. I am hoping to buy her because we both adore each other and I'm the only one who has ridden her. However, because of the sarcoids, I was waiting to see the results of the treatment before commiting to her. This does mean I am limited...
The horse:
Mare, 5years, approx 16hh, warmblood type (KPN x hanoverian x TB I think).
History:
Homebred, never lived anywhere else, on the same grazing she was reared on, out in a large herd (20odd horses). Grazing not particularly rich and further restricted during the day.
Recent...
