I was watching the racing this afternoon and saw this race. The horse landed oddly and moved off differently to how it had been moving before the jump. I thought at the time that the jockey must be feeling the difference in movement - I could see that you might think for a couple of strides...
I wore the same as you in that era.
In the 1980’s, when I was a child/teenager and didn’t have a pony and rarely rode, I did have a pair of jods (putty colour), then the next year I had a pair of long black plastic/rubber boots. I also had a velvet hat with an extra harness over the top.
That was an awful end. I think the jockey would be damned no matter what he did though, horse didn’t look right to me but in that situation who knows what any of us would do.
Tbh I was on quite a few DIY yards many years ago, and although you had your friends and those you’d avoid if possible I don’t recall there being massive problems at any of them (apart from one completely nuts YO)!
I suppose the one thing that hasn’t been discussed is cost. Having my horse pts by the vet at 1am and then his body collected the next day for cremation was a lot more money than using just one agency, and I assume the hunt would be less again.
I realise it’s not relevant to everyone but...
Mine was needle shy and I would have preferred his end to have been different for him, but it was an emergency pts at 1am. He didn’t even notice the sedation needle, probably because he was already in pain. The actual fluid which ended his life was a shock to him, his distress was plain to...
No placing for us yesterday and a flat tyre meant I could only walk the first agility course once, and I handled it really badly from many angles 🙄 he felt pressurised in that run and as we were E by the second jump I handed him into the weaves and saw his confidence grow. We did get all six...
One on Dartmoor (I think it’s called Fitzworthy) is stopping as a riding school although staying as a livery yard. It’s been going forever, I think I rode there once about 50 years ago.
We had a VW Caddy for a few months and it was very car like, but the Transit Connect is more useful. The ability to roll those seats forward with the dog guard is brilliant - we recently transported a double mattress in there, flat. That’s a huge load space.
Video shows the same set up (not...
That’s a how long is a piece of string question…
My two travel happily in the boot of my RAV4 in a dogbox. We also have a Ford Transit Connect van - the second row of three seats can be rolled forward, taking the dog guard with it. OH would get his five working dogs in the space you can see in...
