Racing today

This advert for the grand national - i dont think it is the people's race any more, I cant see any 100-1 Mon Mome type winners happening again unless it was an absolute bog. The fences are glorified hurdles so it doesn't come down to jumping. The speed could be 😬 Saturday as its drying so much

I like JP Mcmanus, and how several of his champions retire back to him, but he has such a huge chunk of the runners (id rather him than gigginstown) it feels like smaller connections are eclipsed now. I know he spends a f tonne but still...

Wonder why the fence before the home straight was omitted in the Irish national? Hoping just damage?

I was watching because I have a tiny share in Wendigo but that was a horrible end and I agree surely you'd have felt him lose his action or at least be cautious to the line knowing what kind of damage that sitting down sort of injury can do, rather than riding him out.

Whats angered me even more is the Gigginstown (who i dont like anyway)connection rushing to defend the jockey

Sorry but he looked wrong behind for several strides after the jump, its made even worse by the fact he used the whip

Yes if the poor lads back was broken, he probably couldn't be saved anyway, but we dont know if it exacerbated it into being broken further.

Really sickening and im not anti - this has just given a tonne of ammunition to be used. Fatally injured horse whipped for the sake of winning

Would he have pulled up straight away if not leading?

They bought in a no remounting rule, could anything be bought in after this?

This is the problem with betting, while id far rather see him be pulled up, if the horse was fine the "punters" with tens of thousands on Would have moaned

At the very least let him trot a few strides. The fact the whip was used...

Surely a pro should feel one that's that badly wrong

I think I’ve missed all this coverage, but I am fast forwarding through a lot. I haven’t seen anything said. 😢

I agree. He would have pulled up if it had happened anywhere but the last fence. PT has just undone all the good coverage racing welfare has been getting.

It annoyed me yesterday when the pictures of the tearful groom of Impaire en Pass were shown on SM as an example of how people in racing love their horses. Surely no one’s questioning a groom’s motivation? They work long hours for not a great wage all for the love of their horses. That’s never been in dispute. It’s the higher ups that sometimes have questionable motives.Poor Golden Dancer’s groom will be in bits

I’m glad I turned off when they were down at the start

I know it's the Mail but this is the sort of publicity that racing doesn't need - especially when that Polanski muppet has put banning horse racing in his manifesto.

I also don't believe that Townend couldn't feel anything wrong
