    Channel 4 now!

Great program and James did brilliantly in the race. Losing that amount of weight is a phenomenal achievement :)

Young horse doesn't like things going over her head?

My youngster was like this and it became apparent he'd been ear twitched. I put the bridle on in bits - got one with clips for bit. Rewarded small steps. Took awhile but I can now bridle him normally. Paitience is key. Good luck

No, you do not 'love' your horse if...

I have a horse because I love riding. I am not Lady-Manyacres. I cannot justify keeping a horse at livery that I cannot ride. My horse is 11 years old and thrives on work. He wouldn;t happily retire out at grass. I think it's clear what I would do. Do I love him? I absolutely adore him and...

Competition Report: Of fish and zebras

Mum has missed her true vocation - she should be in Rio right now showing our lot how to win medals. Fantastic report and really great pics - brought a smile to my face. Looks as though Mum and pony were going to part company in pic 2 where Mum jumped the bigger of the two!

I just want to share my thoughts. Cruel to be kind??

She's a lucky girl that you are prepared to make this decision at the right time. She'd thank you if she could. Take some comfort from that.

Could You Have A Horse And Deal With Not Riding It?

I have a horse to ride so therefore, if I lost my love of riding I would be inclined to sell the horse. But that's just me.

    Why I'm giving up - a YM's perspective

This - 100%. Other thing that galls me is the assumption that YOs' should and will put up with continuously late payment to the point where the livery clears abit owing but never gets up to date - therefore acting as an unpaid borowing facility. the YO on my former yard threw you out if you...

When do you say enough is enough with your horse?

That speaks volumes - before you even get to the financial considerations. IMHO 8 is very young to be retired and he may still potentially be in pain despite the lack of ridden work. I think you know when it's time to call it a day - lack of spark, the day he gets grumpy with you despite...

    Why I'm giving up - a YM's perspective

Insightful post OP and I'm sorry you are having to give up. I hope you can move onto something else. I am often amazed that in my part of the country (crowded south-east) people still expect to get DIY livery for £25 per week. I am on part livery at £110 per week (soon to go up to £120 pwe...

Just watching British Eventing Team horses leaving for Rio

from my office window - they are very chilled just picking at grass in a carpark, runway not a million miles away. My own horse would have expired from fright by now. Hope they have a safe trip - it's a long way to Brazil.

Do non horsey friends & family really understand the commitment?

It's not just horses - it's a clash betwen what your priorities are, their priorities and also their general attitiude. It happens if you have dogs (no, he can;t be left on his own for 12 hours while I schelp round the M25 to spend the 'day' with you at short notice) and children. 'Um, no, I...
