    Please reassure me..PTS?

Please bear with me, this is going to be a long and rambling one! I have 3 horses that are kept at home. They are all very bonded and act as a happy little unit. My eldest has been retired 12 years due to PSD in both hinds, I never thought he'd take to being a field ornament, but he has been...

Irresponsible dog owner quote of the week

Dogs not under control is a pet peeve of mine....I have 3 spaniels all of whom spend the majority of time off lead, however if we are out walking and see someone either on foot or horseback ( or cycling) they have been taught to come straight back to us without even being called - even our 5...

    air jacket owners please

I am the same height as you and am amply endowed in the boobage area....I ride in a Hit-air jacket as they inflate outwards not inwards, otherwise the 'girls' would be crushed to the point of suffocating me! I have had my jacket around 6 years and only inflated it twice, both times saving me...

1 pony and 1 horse on 5 acres

I have 3 large horses on 6 acres...I rotate the grazing using electric fencing, otherwise 2 of them would eat to the point of explosion! it also means I can harrow and roll as necessary. I have never fertilised and poo pick daily, after 4 years we now have a lovely varied sward that isn't too...

    Ginger - politically correct?

I'm a liver chestnut myself and would not take offence being called a ginger, though most refer to me as Auburn... I love a good chestnut, my first big horse was actually named Ginger, so no problem calling him a ginger!!!

    Marte needs us again.

Just a reminder that if you use Amazon...you can sign up to their 'Smile' option where a (albeit tiny) proportion of the value of the transaction can be donated to charity...PFK is my charity of choice.

How on earth do I buy a saddle?

Or you could ask them if they would recommend a suitable make/ model to meet your requirements that you can then source elsewhere....my old saddler carried a limited stock, but advised me exactly what would suit my and my horses needs which I then bought second hand from ebay.

Thanks for everyone's replies...he has had an inflatable buster collar on all day, and has still managed to lick the wound....distraction seemsto work best with him. I will try to cover the wound and then distract him all day tomorrow!!

    How to stop wound licking?!

My spaniel has grazed his dew claw pad, nothing bad but he has now licked it raw. I have tried covering it with vet wrap but he just chews it off. Is there any thing I can do?

    Bedding- rape plant

I've used rape straw in the past...never had a problem with any of my 3 eating it and found it quite absorbent. I now use miscanthus as I can source it cheaper.

    Cystsis: cranberry juice

In theory, cranberry juice (unsweetened) helps relieve the symptoms not the cause of cystitis....as does sodium citrate by reducing the acidity of the urine. Not sure how to encourage a horse to drink lots of water, which us equally as important though!
