My horse does this occasionally. She has spavin in both hocks and we have put it down to this. She has shown improvement since going back on a joint supplement.
I also think I know the horse and the seller. If it is the same horse, they have had huge success with the horse and they sold him (and their wagon) purely for financial reasons and bought a cheap youngster to play with. 2 weeks is no time at all to have a horse and expect it to go out...
We have had 2 headshakers. My old man Arthur showed considerable improvement when wearing the shires nose net and a fly fringe.
Charlie had extensive investigations with Derek Knottenbelt at Leahurst, who suggested the platinum coils in the vagus nerve of his face. We decided against this at...
My cob mare was diagnosed with bone spavin this time last year and I refused to go with injections into the joint or tildren. I went for the good old fashioned walking exercise on the roads until the joints fused, with help from a short course of Danilon. Working closely with my farrier (who has...
I still have a full bed on mats. Tia is a big girl and lies down a lot, and she is also very clean so I don't waste much bedding. I can't bear to see horses lying down on a scrap of bedding. Mine won't lie down in the field and if there's not enough bedding in the stable she won't lie down in...
Two shot, two by injection.
The injections were peaceful, but took a little time - I wouldn't have been happy to use this method for one that was scared of needles.
We had one shot by the vet, which was a bit scary - I wasn't confident that he would do the job right and by the look of how...
After my rant, a more general one.
All the gear and no idea. Those that think they know everything, have all the gear, have read a book or two, and wish to tell you all that you're not doing right. When actually they have ruined three perfectly good horses already and are just starting on...
My current one - not horsey but related to the brew cabin at the yard-
People happily using all the milk, teabags and sugar I have brought and not contributing to the supplies or leaving any for me to have a cup of tea when I get back from riding. GRRRRR!!
On Tuesday night I took 4 pints...
I love my cob and wouldn't have anything else. I didn't know I'd got a cob when I got her, but that's what she's turned into :)
She is great fun and very cheeky without ever doing anything bad. She is safe but forward but never strong. If she does shy there is so much of her there is still...
Thank you for your comment Pottamus. I am going to print off your post and put it up outside Tia's stable as a reminder when I feel like I'm being mean.
It's a shame there isn't a way by now of transferring weight across - several people have said they wish they could have some of that neck on their horse! I wish I could get rid of it!
Tia is now on a diet so I thought I would post some pics of how she looks at the moment
This is the third week of her diet and so far she has lost 15kg.
I just can't seem to shift that neck!
What does anyone think of her weight? I know she is fatter than most people would like - she...
We had an old pony PTS 18 months ago. Having seen 2 shot and 2 done by injection (inclusing my old pony) I chose to have this one shot, as I found the injection method distressing.
I got the knackerman out, as the pony was scared of the vet, and I thought that as he does the job all day every...
I have a very wide and chunky 15hh wwith a very short back. She is in a 6'3" rug, but only Masta ans some weatherbeeta rugs fit her because if her wide chest and shoulders.
I had a Fylde Ray saddle made for her in the end because we just couldn't get anything wide enough off the peg or second...
