    Prescription charges

I had a cat on thyronorm and I just said to the vet that I wanted to buy a large bottle that would last for 6 months. They were fine with that and it was much cheaper online, even with a £12 prescription charge.

What happens to our horses if there is a WW3?

MIne would just live out in their massive field. They live out all year round without additional food anyway. If there was a nuclear war it wouldn't matter anyway, we would all be dead pretty quickly.

Making a decision to PTS when it's not clear cut

I don't think it would be wrong to pts with her issues and apparent unhappiness. My boy is 24 and I won't keep him going when can't enjoy his current lifestyle. If he needs box rest for any real length of time or restricted grazing, I will call it a day. At that age they have had a good life...

Is 24/7 grass turnout a no-no for some types?

I have 3 good doers, all cobs of various types. The Welsh cob was lean when I got him as project 3 years ago. He went in 33 acre field with mixed herd. Old grass, scrubby, not rested, not fertilised, herd of 12-14. He is only worked in hand and last summer was the first time he got fat and I...

How much hay to feed now

We have 14 on 33 acres of rough grazing, with some proper oldies. We haven't hayed at all this winter. Two of mine are a good weight, one needs to drop more. Mine have wanted to come in for a bit of hay this last week or so. They come in for about 45 minutes of hay and then out again. Our grass...

    Is this an unrealistic ask?

I agree with doing the work to make him happy and confident travelling. I am doing that at the moment with my project horse. He was loaded in a chiffney, dually head collar and lunge line... it wasn't a pleasant experience for him. When we picked him up we had to load him like that. I promised...

    Lame and injecting hocks

I had my 24 year old's hocks done in Dec with arthramed. Seems more comfortable, he just hacks on the Downs now, no schooling or jumping though we might pop a log out hacking. I will probably take him xc schooling this summer just for an outing and do the water, steps, banks and a few logs...

    Fat to fit transformation (horse)

This is my old boy Izzy. First one is when he was at the rescue before I brought him home. He was 11. Then doing adult gymkhana a few years later. He went on to become a fab endurance horse and hunter. He is 24 now and just hacks with a few hunt rides and fun rides. Second is at one of the...

    Insurance costs

I don't insure any of my 3. Mine are 24, 14 and 10. When i just had my oldest I did insure him. I think overall I lost a bit with his insurance, in about 7 years of insurance he had one claim of about £3, with £500 excess. I stopped insuring him at 18 as so much excluded for age and I wouldn't...

    Horse becoming dangerous

At least you know what you are dealing with and that pain is at the bottom of her behaviour. I don't know how much turn out she is getting but the more she gets and the bigger the field the better. I just had the saddler out today to mine. My rescue boy had a saddle fitted last March, he had...

    Advice about rehoming please

'And I still stand by it, I'm sorry there is no WAY I would entertain keeping a child like that, It' sounds like Vicious little thug. My Opinion if you don't like it scroll on.' What kind of life do you think a 4 year old being placed into an adoptive home has had? No one from a loving family...

Small clip to shed some excess pounds??

I am having the same conversation with myself about my Welsh D who is not in work atm. He is on 33 acres with 12 horses. Hasn't dropped any weight yet. Think I am going to bite the bullet and try it. I was thinking bib and belly.

How many hours turnout during winter

I am on DIY in the South East and mine are out 24/7 on a 33 acre field. There is still plenty of grass, only 12 horses, and none of mine want to be in for more than an hour or two. The gate way and area in front of the field shelter are muddy but the rest of the field is fine. A few people...

    Horse becoming dangerous

I was very nervous at first. My trainer came with me to get him as he had to be loaded in a chiffney. On the way back she said I must not handle him without a hat and gloves. She said he wasn't aggressive but he was very scared and if he had a fright he would do whatever he could to get away...

    Horse becoming dangerous

24/7 turnout in a herd is so good for them if they have been injured or suffered some other trauma. It has worked so well for the chap I took on. He was 8 and was going to PTS for being dangerous. I took him and he was incredibly anxious, tense all over, muscles rock hard and sore, white...
