Have just read this - we actually tried that today...old pair of trousers with legs filled with sand for some weight. Had a bit of a spook the first time we put it on but fine after that. People seems to be the issue rather than the weight/something on his back!
yes this has been a discussion as we are not pushing outside our abilities. Girl backing him is experienced but just not come across one quite like him. We are unlucky in that we are quite a remote location and not really anyone with the expertise to come to us so would probably be a case of...
I recently purchased a 4yo Connemara gelding as a winter project. He was advertised as having just done basic ground work but on speaking with the owner, she revealed he had a rider on him briefly in May (saw video of him trotting up and down their yard). Due to staff shortages at her yard and...
I had my 10yo wolf tooth removed after I bought him - really straight forward process with my boy. Sedated and tooth was pulled within 5mins. He was then left in without food for an hour till sedation wore off but started munching on hay as if nothing happened after that. Think I avoided bitting...
I am considering bringing a 7yo back into work who has done nothing but stand in the field for the past 2 years -not due to injury or anything sinister just lack of rider. He was broken, ridden away and successfully shown in the spring/summer of his 5th year before being turned out so has really...
Ecrosier - my vet gave me the option of ratinidine for the trial as it is much cheaper but I think for it to be most effective it has to be administered every 8hours and my schedule wouldn't allow me to do that. It's also a lot of crushing tablets if they won't take then whole in a feed - I was...
He has hasn't been scoped the main reason being we are fairly rural and the nearest place is a 150mile round trip and I don't have my own transport at the moment. My vet agreed that his symtoms were textbook for ulcers so as an alternative to scoping we did a trial with GG during which I saw a...
I'm only £162 for GG from vet so sounds like I'd be as well sticking with them! Haha noticed there was just stars but assumed you weren't deliberately keeping your source secret!! He's been on GG for 28days then 14days into the reduced dose symtoms reappeared so vet suggested to try another...
I can get peptizole for £20 a box of 7 cheaper than GG from the vet. As the peptizole is a bigger syringe I would only need 1 whereas I need 1.25 GG a day so that's where the majority of my saving is coming from (should be £60 a week not £80). I know practises that are selling GG for over £100...
Just curious if anyone has used this as an alternative to gastrogard? Exact same drug so assuming it should be just as effective but coming in about £80 a week cheaper to treat.
He's not moulting yet. Was worried that he'd still look a bit bald but as he's been on his winter hols until recently I didn't bother clipping again. Think I'll take your advice and take it all off!
