I'm not totally oblivious to the horse's musculoskeletal system but you're right I'm not a qualified physio so it could be related to his back. I just hope he gets a diagnosis and treatment and soon :-)
Thanks, I asked the owner if the back woman had sought authority from the vet to treat him but she seems to think that the vet was not informed.
I also asked if the back woman had given her remedial exercises for him but she did not receive any aftercare exercises which I thought was a bit...
Thanks, I've made a detailed list of my observations from over the last couple of months that I've been working with him, that the owner will hopefully mention to the vet (if she gets one out).
I've been working from the ground with him for the majority of the time with very few problems...
Yes, thanks that's what I thought. I've told the owner that If he was mine I would get the vet.
Personally I think there's something going on in his sacroilliac region but I could be second guessing all night :)
16.2hh thoroughbred ex race horse 10 years old.
Reluctant to walk down hills and when he does he severely drags his hind feet.
He will not bear weight on his nearside rear to allow you to pick his foot out however the farrier does not have a problem putting shoes on him. When you try to...
lol it smells very strong! I've bought a bag but i've yet to open it but thanks for the offer. Apparently it's from Canada but knowing my luck it'll be off Blackpool Beach lol :D
Just wondering if anyone pays for regular massages for their horses? Personally I think that unless you are at competition level I think it's more of a luxury thing.
Do you think that your horse benefits from massage?
What about back specialists? Vet or backman - who do people prefer...
Hi Crazy Fresian, how much do you feed? I've read that too much is very bad but then I've also read that it's very beneficial when fed correctly
Thanks Jadelovescassie I think I may end up doing that as the more I research horse food the more confused I am - it doesn't take much though lol I think I may be thinking to much about it and making harder than it should be. :D
Thanks Kadastorm. I've weighed him and worked out 2% and 3% of his body weight at a ratio of 80:20 haylege to hard feed as he is only in light to moderate work atm. He should be on 31lbs of Haylege and 9lbs of hard feed. However 1 full scoop as recommended by the manufacturer weighs 4lbs...
Thanks Ginger Bear. You are very lucky to have winter turnout. We don't have ours reinstated until May. I think all year round turnout is the best policy even if there's not much nutrition in the grass. At least it keeps them sane, supple and happy :-)
Hi does anyone have trouble keeping weight on their TB or any horse around 16.2hh. How much in lbs or kg do you give them of hard feed per day and how much do you feed hay/haylage per day. Do you feed any oils and/or supplements? People mention 1 scoop of this and 2 scoops of that but what is...
