I will reply to all these wonderful replies properly later but wanted to say thank you to every single post. It all makes a lot of sense quickly reading through, and definitely right with the tuesday excuse!!
I've lunged my boy a fair bit now for his fitness and it's made so much harder because...
This is kind of dumb, but. My horse and I have both been out of work a while. I don't have anyone nearby who can just "pop over" and give me a confidence boost. I was sick, then got better, then my horse was sick, eventually got better - now I stand looking at how wonderful he is and...
Hi all, will try to make this as short as possible.
15 years ago horse got the tail end of EI thanks to some new horses on the yard and my horse hadn't yet begun his vaccs as I'd only just got him. Left him with some scarring but recovered well and left with a fractional cough that only...
I fed.Readymash Extra for many years before switching to Solution mash when diagnosed with a higer ACTH (PPID) He was noticeably less fizzy, however the solution mash has worked well with him. I get it for £14.89 a bag and it keeps him going where other feeds have failed to help.
Try contacting the British Grooms Association - therebare many listed already available on the site. If you have a job offering, they will also post it on their FB page etc too.
There are so many horses on the market who are sound (or 'sound') which are struggling to find homes. Though he is rideable, becoming a risk when ridden poses yourself with a few issues - there aren't many homes out there wanting retirement horses, especially those who need bolting issues...
At the moment I would be able to. I'd be able to bring my horse to work if there was a serious problem! I'm also self employed so can leave that whenever I like.
It is a worry yes. As others have stated, keep an eye on the symptoms, but don't stress yourself with it as it's easy to convince yourself they're a bigger problem at the time. I agree with retesting as you cannot go by just symptoms. Medication works for some and not for others, however...
Knew someone with an ex racehorse who had broken part of her hip - not sure which unfortunately which doesn't help. What area is it suspected in this horse?
The mare had on and off lameness and a depression in her muscle which was never explained (she healed before said woman bought her) no...
My pink skinned gelding has had this. Little interferance with the area, but it builds up quite a lot and coats his legs where it turns orange (yum.)
I ventured up there to clean, was a lot above the pocket of skin above the penis, but otherwise nothing nasty - the prune actually quite enjoyed...
My veteran (36) has only just started responding to his name in the last 2/3 years! Otherwise no, not bad luck. Two of mine are often called by nicknames (one's nickname is now his 'every day' name for the past 8 years) and respond to the lot - no bad luck either! I wouldn't change their names...
I crushed them up as best as possible to start with but my Welsh had them whole after a while - He's walking dustbin, but as others have suggested you are able to crush them up or mix with a little water or as others, coffee grinders. I also found mixing with a little Koff syrup helped with the...
Even the first SHE page had a lot of complaints that were removed. I do remember they offered a lot of prizes to people which never turned up. Can't believe anyone would buy a onesie.
It's 'easier' to have liveries than to be a livery, with other liveries.
Have met some incredibly wonderful, genuine people in the horse world - liveries and yard owners alike. Those people are what I miss being at livery for. Some weren't all that experienced, but their dedication and...
