The critical bit on mine is probably the hedge on top, climbing a roughly 5ft sheer wall, to be met by a hawthorn/ Blackthorn hedge means the sheep generally don't even bother trying.
Your mud/ grass bank would need an established thorny hedge onto to become impenetrable. Sadly without rocks in...
A Devon bank is a wall, carefully constructed with stones. It is an art & expensive if you were to employ someone to build.
Just mud is unlikely to hold together to create the sheer face you would need, it will collapse & just provide a climbing frame for sheep. They are not as agile as goats...
I'd unfollowed the page based on the c**p she was posting, but may have to check up on Lucky. I'd always got the impression that as a dealer she wad pretty good.
Is he an overheight connie. If he is then I would strongly suspect a physical issue.
I've yet to meet an overheight one that doesn't have, or end up with physical issues.
Any results from the bloods yet.
I had one years ago a bit similar, bloods came back with high white cell count. Abdomen scan revealed a huge abcess 😪
Equally friends mare was depressed & girthy, appeared sound. She was eventually diagnosed bilaterally lame in front, kissing spines & ulcers...
Thanks, yes artramid in all. Vet was suggesting doing coffins first as he thinks they are the primary issue. Hocks show minor changes, but in my head I want to make him him as comfy as possible. I'm not sure what waiting to do the hocks will prove.
Lameness is very minor, but he's a stoic gem of...
Anyone had hocks & coffin joints injected at the same time? All 4 joints look like they need it, in my head it makes sense to do it all at once, but only if it's not detrimental to the horse.
I would definitely get horse checked over as I believe saddle slip is commonly caused by hind limb lameness.
If all OK then asymmetrical girthing, or a different girth could solve it.
Just keep chopping them to ground level. A good set of shears gets the job done fairly quickly. Pick up and dispose of seed heads, but the leaves can stay & rot down.
This method has worked for me, its taken few years to deter them, but the grass can start to out compete & it so much easier...
I've had a relatively young horse pts due to severe arthritis. He too had not been worked hard. I questioned my vet & he told me about a 3yr old he had euthanized as it was riddled with arthritis. He had no explanation, just said its one of those things 🤷♀️
I've heard of a couple comiing sound with indiba & posture training, 1 has come back into full work, the other is OK with dressage & hacking but any serious amount of jumping makes him sore. Number 2 also has kissing spines so that could be the issue with jumping.
Good luck & from a personal...
Fabulous, cross 1 (main) road & have the whole of dartmoor to explore 🙂
Only downside is bad weather, have to hack across open moorland for 10/15 minutes to ride around lanes
