Here we go... i mean, I know it's an old post, but that comment just really shocked me. How... how did it help with grass sickness of all things?! Never mind all the leg stuff... grass sickness?! No.
I just stumbled across this thread, and read through the whole thing. I noticed In one of Matt's comments that these bands help horses with grass sickness... anyone else pick up on that?
As the owner of a pony who was very sadly put to sleep after a long battle with grass sickness, I find it...
God, she sounds like a nightmare! I'm actually dreading looking for a new riding horse here.
My only experience has been buying a small companion pony. Basically lied to about every single thing. Specifically asked how she was with electric fencing and if she respected it, and she escaped the...
Oh I love those ones as well, so entertaining! Like a farmer or dealer from 20 years ago has a picture of every single horse that's every been through their gates. Posts like that were quite rife around one particular area of Scotland where there's a large dealer who has up to a hundred horses...
Must have cross posted with you. Very hard and sad situation, and a few glasses of wine and expressing opinions is fine! Okay so you could have been more tactful, but we're only humans after all! I'm rarely tactful. I word vomit on a daily basis.
If at all possible I'd leave out 24/7. If you could have a sacrifice paddock or a smaller area sectioned off for him overnight before turning out with others during the day?
You mention he was a riding school pony for a year, was he stabled there? How did they deal with him?
I'd echo other...
I'm more of a reader or 'lurker' than a poster myself, but I never find the forum uninteresting and if there isn't much new that interests me, I search through older posts to find something that's more relevant. personally if I was finding things a bit stale or 'samey' I'd try start a few...
I was looking for this exact same thing, and surprisingly found it in decathlon just last week! Excellent price (€37 or there about) comes with a neck, but it's obviously detachable. I've found it's made on the big side so I got the size down from what I'd usually need. It's surprisingly...
We fill up an IBC from our local réservoir, it's hitched to the back of a flat bed trailer and it generally needs filled once every 10 days for two horses and a pony as non of our grazing has water. You could collect rain water in one of these if you have a field shelter with a good gutter to...
Ticks are the bane of my life! We have an abundance of wild boar and deer here and ticks are unbelievable! It's something we've had to take in to consideration and research quite extensively, some horses I've seen have literally been covered in hundreds of them!
We use Butox as a monthly...
No we have almost no clover here, she's pretty much on a bare paddock at the moment as I'm introducing the grass slowly. She pretty much only ever been kept on minimal grass and poor forage, so I'm changing it over slowly. Our hay is excellent alpine meadow grasses though (less than 2% clover)...
The vet had an emergency today so she can't come until Thursday now.
Her bag has swollen considerably overnight, the vet isn't concerned though, I've just to keep an eye on her until the vet can get to us as it's not really an emergency.
