I just want to point out that I don't use the chain to yank the head about. It's there to give me a bit more pressure and I never use it harshly. It's also backed up with lots of groundwork- basically keeping the horse guessing where I'm going so they're always looking to you for leadership.
You did the right thing.
As much as some people want to help by taking the donks, you have to stay on the right side of the law. Say the OP had taken the donks- what's to stop this horrible woman going to the police and reporting them stolen? Or doing something else equally vile?
I think many of these natural horsemanship halters are a waste of money. Buy an extra long lead rope and put it over the nose. (I use a chain on bargey horses- they respect it 100% and often just putting it on stops the unwanted behaviour.)...
Worked in a very large livery yard for a year in my late teens. Left because of low pay (I was leaving work at the yard to go house cleaning to afford to live!), and an awful boss who took everything out on me. I was doing 14-16 hour days with both jobs and I was exhausted!
Some of the horses...
This might sound harsh, and I don't mean it to. :)
Stop panicking about box rest and lami. X-ray the foot and figure out exactly what you're dealing with. Odds on, it's an abscess which are a pain in the bum but usually resolve with time and treatment. Abscesses don't need box rest- the horse...
Don't give up on her so soon. My boy was three legged lame with his last abscess. It took a week of soaking to get the thing to finally pop. I found the small air activated heat packs over the poultice/under the wrapping helped.
My poor MH Ice Riders have about had it. I like them but they feel a little bulky in the foot to me so I'm not sure if I should buy another pair or look for something else.
I need a slim-ish fitting leg and I'm a size 7 if that matters. Something smart enough to do some local dressage in...
I have a couple of MW and a LW. I layer under them as I need to- I have a proper underrug and a few different wool coolers that I use. Then again, the ponyo is a bit of a bog beast, so it's more to keep the mud off than keep him warm!
I do. I dump the pellets into a big bucket last thing at night and cover them with water. They're perfect by the next morning. (Though I did learn to leave the bucket in the tack room and not the feed room. The tack room is heated. The feed room isn't. Guess what happened last winter?)
