Ok, so have my first xc comp tomorrow and someone on msn has just asked if i have a medical arm band! And I don't! Didn't know I needed one! Didn't say anything on the schedule! Will I be turned away if I don't have one!

Failing that, a piece of paper in a plastic wallet which was tied onto your arm will probably be sufficient for one day I'd have thought...

well i know someone who was in a similar position once, she simply told the secretary when she went to get her number. the secretary didnt have any medical armbands so we simply copied all the details that were required and wrote it down on a piece of paper for her and strapped it to her arm and away they went. You shouldnt have any problems. good luck!

Is it just the medically needy who needs them or everyone ??

Everyone. The details on them (which you fill in yourself) include your name & address, emergency contact numbers, next of kin, Blood group (don't guess this - if you don't know then leave blank),allergies, vehicle reg no. (so that in the event of a fall at least the horse can be taken back to the vehicle & dealt with), & GPs contact details. You can put the info on a card & just borrow the armband if you don't have your own. Don't ride with someone elses details, or not bother to fill the card in..in the event of serious accident the information they contain can be vital.

It was always compulsory when my daughter was eventing to have an armband...but as others have said they are usually available at the tent. My daughter used to wear hers on her lower leg as her arms were too skinny to keep it on....the jusges used to frown at her but I have noticed a few wearing them like this now.
