£125 to enter an ODE!

That's what an advanced entry will cost next year, as long as you're not late entering (that's an extra £10), and before your start fee (£20)... Intermediates are £91.65, again, if on time and before your start fee. How on earth are ordinary people supposed to afford this?! I've got two that should go Intermediate next spring on form, but think there might have to be some big cutbacks in some areas of our lives just to be able to enter events. Oh and whilst I'm on the subject, diesel round here is now 110.9p per litre; so even getting down the road is a bloody expensive exercise

. Are you all going to sacrifice other things to carry on eventing, or have some of you reached the point where the cost is too prohibitive and has taken the fun out of it?

ETS: sorry, should have clarified those prices are for the events that charge VAT, the events that don't are cheaper (but not much!).

I have just had a look and some events are adking £60 for Intro/Pre Novice which is scandalous!

I too will probably not re-register which is a shame as I have 2 lovely eventers, but I don't see how I can afford it now

And registering and training and stabling [if it is a distance and early times] and shavings [because they usually only provide straw]
We can only afford about 8 a year .

From what ive heard from madmare Snoop is a proper dressage diva now - so i think you should just stick to the dressage hun!!

I think BE are also creating a vicious circle here, plenty of people moan about so few people wanting to go past Novice, and how this means the top levels are very expensive to run, but with the entry fees taking such a jump bwteen Novice and Intermediate they are not helping themselves IMO.

It also presents riders like me who don't have endless backing a bit of a conundrum: having spent a large sum on entry fees if I happen to find myself in with a shout after the showjumping I will go xc with a fast time in mind in an attempt to recoup some of the money, which might not always be in the best interest of the horse (I'm not suggesting I'd run on terrible ground, or push a horse that wasn't really ready, but sometimes a horse does need an easier round).

well im a student who works part time.

my boyf laughed when i said i wanted to do BE i wish BE XC courses would run little XC comps like somerford and kelsal hill i dont see why you can only jump them if your BE.

it really F*cks me off. i understand it costs alot to run these events but theres nothing for people like me who can clear 3FT+ XC course but cant afford to affiliate

It is very expensive but costs have really risen this year and I guess the damage events suffered with the terrible summer need to be paid somehow.
I think it will be the same as always people grin and bare it. But what irks me far more is that I am sure we will be ripped off with withdrawals more than ever this year. Nothing has changed and the thought of entering an event paying £70 and then not running has me in a cold sweat!

On the plus side I just checked: our beasties are already qualified for a CIC**! So as long as you don't need any prep runs (oh, and you don't need an FEI passport for a CIC**)...

The price is frightening and I am aiming to do an advanced or 2. I guess for me also the fuel is probably going to hit me worst living where I do. Perhaps I will look for a SJer not an eventer as my second horse.

iv seen a few riding club ones! you know people really should advertise theyre events online more!! and theyre livery yrads moved 280 miles away from home with horsey and struggle!

If you pay such a huge entry but have to withdraw for veterinary reasons (for example), even though they will fill your entry easily they still don't refund? I though every BE event had to ballot because they were oversubscribed. How on earth can they justify keeping such a huge amount of money?????

I think you need to relocate! The only one "near" (I use the term loosely) you is Powderham and that's pretty early isn't it? Weston's a cracker too, easy roads for you. Not done Withington, but guess that's reachable as well.

Trouble with PC and RC events is they often don't have classes beyond PN level. Also even if using BE courses they rarely pay any attention to ground conditions. Whilst I realise I'm paying a VERY high premium for BE the organisation, medical and veterinary cover as well as the attention paid to the courses and ground conditions mean I will carry on down the BE route for now.

i was wondering that aswell. At least with BD you get refunded if you provide a vets note or if the classes are cancelled for whatever reason....and thats only £15.....

Hey that would be good. Slight problem is I have to work to pay for it all. However if the offer still there in the summer we did once stay at Wilton for 10 days and got 3 events in with two horses.

Most events keep a wait list but some don't. In general if you withdraw before the ballot date you get a full refund (but with online entries most ppl enter the day before the ballot date anyway). There is a published withdrawel date, usually just under a week before the event, and if you withdraw before then you get a percentage back, 50% if you're lucky. After that, forget it... nothing, vets cert or not.

Yes ,I was replying to Carmenlucy who would want loewer level.Many pcs have open classes and my daughter was still in pc until she was 25 years old.
