Yikes! I had no idea it cost so much! I have to do two of them. Did everyone else pay this much or a Weatherbys especially expensive?

They're very efficient and lovely mind you so I guess I don't mind so much!

When you say name do you mean your name? When I did the change of ownership it was only about £20 per passport last year I think. If it's adding a horses name I'm no help sorry!

I paid £30 for a name change on a BWBS passport - and that was effectively for a double change as the passport still had the breeder down as registered owner.

To put a horses name on it. To change ownership to me is only £12.50.

I was just a bit yikes as I was expecting to pay maybe half that amount!

Does anyone know what sports horse breeding of GB lot charge to add a horses name? I'm glad Nits doesn't have a Weatherbys passport now I must say!!

Weatherby's are the most expensive of all. Unless you want to race them, surely it doesn't matter if they have a Weatherby's registered name?

Yeah my new mare has a weatherby's passport and she unnamed in it. I looked into adding a name for her and was shocked at the price. Hence why its not dont yet. Also looked in to how much it would cost if I changed her to a broodmare if I bred from her later on in life. And I have to pay to put her name in the passport plus an extra £90 to change her to a broadmare so I can have a foal registered too.

Just out of interest and sorry for the thread hijack but if I wanted to compete BSJA or eventing etc I would have to add a name to the passport. Am i correct in this?

Yep, which is exactly why I have to bother to put one on there or else I really wouldn't be bothering. My horse isn't even a TB (he has a general passport) but I want to BS him so he must have a name!

he's going to be called Behaving Bradley. I am about to reserve it as they don't have one already :)

£20 sounds a lot more reasonable!! Thank goodness she doesn't have one with WBs even though she is the real deal and is definitely a TB!

I was quoted £110 5 years ago - and so my filly remained un-named. I do think it makes a farce of the passport system really with Weatherbys charging this - how on earth do they justify that kind of money just to put a name on a passport - and they must just end up with a load of passports with un-named horses?

I can understand £15 / £20 for changing ownership, for admin costs - but I do think Weatherbys are a little (or a lot maybe...) expensive for naming a horse.

Autumns show name isnt on her passport and we registered her bsja with her show name (which you have to put a choice of four names down) - they have then stamped this into her passport for us.

BE does say you have to have a name in the passport but they do make exceptions. I emailed them explaining she has a bsja stamped name in her passport and that the irish passport place wanted £80 to put an official name in there - thy were quite happy with the bsja stamped name so have said not to bother sending it to ireland - was very happy with that reply!

georgie girl that is very interesting to know. And a bit of a relief too. I'm going to do it anyway though as it's a good name and I want him to have it so will just stump up. Might ask for it as a birthday present.

I would just check both with bsja and be there are no other horses with that name as you may not get it anyway and they will have to add roman numerals. In an ideal world autumns proper name is On a Whim but with BE and BSJA she is On a Whim II as there has been one before - just check in case you stump up the money and then dont get to use it as you would like after all!

As I say, Autumn is registered with her posh name and now has it stamped into her passport and it didnt cost a penny the way we did it.....

I would definitely check with the BS first before you spend the money - I think £120 is extortionate. My sister's horse has one name on his passport but she registered him under a different name to compete BSJA (his name in his passport is essentially just his stable name) I don't think they even checked against the passport back then. In order to compete BE under that name though we just had to have a stamp/written note in the passport from our vet confirming that the horse named as 'X' in that passport was also called 'X' (new name). That was it basically.

I was charged £25 a few years ago for a name change on a pony passport, was fuming when it came back with old one crossed out and new one written in biro!

My horse has a weatherbys passport with 'unnamed' on it. He competes and is registered BE and BS with a name his old owner g

I contacted weatherbys who recommended not bothering to change the name as hes not going to be raced. Also contacted BE who said as long as the passport number etc matches then its ok.

So you don't need to change the name :)

In their defence I have had replies from two people at Weatherbys about two separate subjects since I emailed yesterday at 3 o clock. Still nothing back from the other lot as yet!! At least they're efficient.

There is a dressage horse called behaving bradley !!

I was told that if the horse wasn't racing (is eventing FEI though) that I could simply write a name in & get my vet to overstamp the last couple of letters (need to write fairly big otherwise the stamp hides the letters). I did this & have never had any problem with BE/BS/BD/FEI. Also did the same with an Irish Sporthorse & a KWPN passport
