£180 hoof pick

I used to look after a horse who had Hermes stuff and it was just gorgeous .
The bridles where lined with this amazing soft almost downy suede stuff difficult to care for though .
He had beautiful striped wool rugs for shows and a beautiful head collar .
I must lose a hoof pick a month where they go I don't know so at that price it would be a bit pricey .

£520 for a BUCKET. And the hoof pick looks quite uncomfortable to use.

Do people really pay that sort of money?

My BFG - what does the H stand for?

I think it's principally to decorate the shops they often have a plastic horse with a tasteful display of unfeasably expensive accessories .
They make jaw dropping riding boots so beautiful they would make you weep if the price had not already induced tears .

That's a really nice hoofpick though :D. Not that I've got so £ to spare on posh hoofpicks.

I wouldn't mind a Hermes sidesaddle though.

Oh, Did you see the Hermes saddle with wings? And the silver croc skin saddle?

Yup .not tasteful .
The Hermes bridles I cared for where just lovely .
Their boots are real boots for using not just to look at .

Hermes' heritage is in leatherwork so the equestrian connection goes way back. I ride side saddle and there are some exquisite Hermes side saddles over a century old still being used today (mostly in France of course). And yes, these antique saddles are also mega bucks :)

I don't think tasteful was what they were aiming for with the last two saddles I mentioned, lol.
Sidesaddles were nice though, not seen any bridle work of theirs as far as I know.

Appreciate the leatherwork - I have a beautiful hermes purse, however, how they justify the cost of non-leather goods is baffling. £1,270 for a bog standard competition jacket!!! I've got a gorgeous, made to measure, custom jacket from flying changes for less than half this price.

Hermes leather stuff is beautiful. I did look at their hoofpick a few months ago as I was looking for a better one than the rubbishy plastic ones.
No, I didn't buy it at £180, I got a friend to make one and its superb. Especially without the price tag.

Well thanks for that! I've now gone from ads for the vulgar hello kitty ring to horsey stuff I can't afford. Going to cry :( :(

On eBay, there are hoof picks made from old shoes: I think they would last and be pretty strong. I'm very tempted for a tenner. They're a very similar shape to the Hermès one. Why are they being all pretentious with this?

Stainless steel hoof pick with "Hermès Sellier" Clou de Selle engraving, Gold aniline goatskin case, Clou de Selle press-stud fastening

Clou de Selle just means saddle nail.

Bit cheaper at ten quid: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bespoke-F...t=UK_Horse_Wear_Equipment&hash=item27ea2c8019 (Not advertising, just showing what's out there for less than £180!)

The pricing is ridiculous. I once worked for a company that imported Lacoste clothing, the mark up is vast I wonder what the mark up on Hermes stuff is......?

Who on earth buys cashmere for a horse? :o

I just love rich people who spend money that gives the rest of us jobs. I once ,indirectly worked for on old lady who needed her transport maintained so that the grand-kids could be taken to school on Monday and picked up on Friday...in Paris. It was a Boeing 727 . The modern equivalent of the split screen Morris minor. A granny's plane. We put in thousands and thousands of man hours in modernizing it because, bless her, she wasn't going to have her grand kids transported in some newfangled untried (or at least without 30 years of track record). Her sons pleaded with her and tried to point out that they could have bought her a very nice ,used 737 for the money she was spending. But she was adamant. My own particular job was servicing the Flap motor drive. I stuck my head in the lions mouth here by condemning the entire drive train (not a good move for a contractor)I did however redeem myself to my Swiss bosses by pointing ot that if,rather than buying in Boeing spares(and cutting into profits) we followed the repair manual and made our own, we would make money on the labour charges. My own angle was that I simply didnt believe that in a desert environment ,those gears would last very long. I was amazed and gratified when her ladyships personal pilot asked to see me. He said that he knew exactly where an asymmetrical flap failure would leave him and please could he take some of the old parts to show her ladyship where her money was going. I dont mind rich people at all, they give us work. Rich stupid people however are another thing.

Mike, agree with you there they give us jobs.

It is one of the reasons I still buy clothes that I know are made in the sweat shops. If we all stop buying these clothes, the people who make them would have no job, no income, we at least relieve some of their poverty.
