£180 hoof pick

On eBay, there are hoof picks made from old shoes: I think they would last and be pretty strong. I'm very tempted for a tenner. They're a very similar shape to the Hermès one. Why are they being all pretentious with this?

Stainless steel hoof pick with "Hermès Sellier" Clou de Selle engraving, Gold aniline goatskin case, Clou de Selle press-stud fastening

Clou de Selle just means saddle nail.

Bit cheaper at ten quid: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bespoke-F...t=UK_Horse_Wear_Equipment&hash=item27ea2c8019 (Not advertising, just showing what's out there for less than £180!)

The iron hoofpicks are fine but a little cumbersome, dahhhling. :) Hermes is so much nicer, with the weight, the feel, the thickness etc. However, seeing as how I wouldn't pay £180 for one, even though it's a lifetime investment (yes, I have considered to pro's and con's while knowing there wasn't a cat in hell's chance of buying one), there are some nice one's on US and European websites. It must just be the UK shops that only give us the option of the 'orrible plastic things.

Just looked at the saddles - beautiful pieces of work. If I had £5k spare, I'd certainly look at one. Wonder if they would look ok on my beloved 14hh Exmoor x ?. Perhaps it's like posh designer frock shops . . ."no, madame, we won't have ANYTHING in your size (even if you are a 6 . .)"
;)

I think a natural coloured Corlandus saddle would complement the Nuglet most splendidly :D

Considering other brands etc, the saddles seem to be a bargain. Certainly in comparison to the hoof pick!

Oh to have so much disposable money. Two weeks mortgage payments for a hoof pick!

The saddles are so lovely though

Are they really? I couldn't be bothered with them after a couple of seconds because the pics are animated and I just want to see the whole saddle, not just bits of it.

And I'd expect to be paid to use their stuff, since nearly everything's got their logo prominently displayed - "Oh look at me and how rich I am. You must be so jealous of me".

ETA: £35 for a 3" piece of glycerine saddle soap? Wouldn't use the stuff on my boots let alone my tack.

Almost spat out my coffee at that one! What on earth would you DO with a £520 bucket, put it on your mantlepice and admire it? Coz sure as hell the horse isn't drinking out of it! Even if I had the money I wouldn't buy any of that stuff.
I think it would be more suited to holding ice and a fizzy-pop bottle - all that wood and leather is not good with a permanently hungry horse...or normal yards in general :D

Even if I had the money I wouldn't buy any of that stuff.

Same here!

Like Mike, my ex (a painter and decorator) came across a customer who just HAD to have the most expensive materials - in case his friends thought he couldn't afford better!

He made an absolute mint out of this bloke because he hadn't the nous to realise that the wallpaper the ex bought from Homebase was several times over the quality of the stuff he'd chosen, and the pattern was slightly less naff, though as near as dammit to the one he'd chosen, into the bargain!

I agree with mike.

I know if I had so much money that a £180 hoofpick seems reasonable, I wouldn't be buying cheap tat from robinsons...
Personally I think it's good for a giggle looking at this stuff but I draw the line at calling people insane or lacking in sense simply because their pockets are deeper than mine. Let them fill their boots and buy all the expensive trinkets they like, in my opinion, it's all going back into the economy. I just think it's a people in glass houses situation...there's people out there looking at people like us, with pet horses kept as leisure animals, buying pretty shiny rugs and spending ££ on my-little-pony matchy matchy gear. (And that's more than I want to spend on saddle cloths but I defend anybody else's right to spend All The Money)
No different really.

I wouldn't want to use the hoofpick as it would get the lovely case dirty when you put it back. Did like the wool/cashmere rug.....
