£220 for a hardly been used Ideal VSD saddle?

Hi there, I'm on the hunt for a new saddle for my rather round cob, sadly though I'm a skint student and didn't really wanna spend more than £100 so I've been looking at second hand saddles. I'm not bothered about how it looks as long as its in half decent condition as I don't do any showing etc, but I came across a secondhand Ideal VSD Saddle for £220, it seems to fit her perfect and it's looks as if it's only been used a handful of time, I'm not really clued up on saddles but I gather £220 is a bargain?

What I'm wondering is what are peoples general thoughts on these saddles (comfy etc) and does anyone with a "chubby" cob have one as well?
 
I thought that! I mean, honestly the only sign its even been used at all are the kinda scuff marks you get on the flaps from the stirrups! not a scratch or scrape anywhere! I definitely think I'm gonna go for it! I know realistically £220 isn't a lot of money but I didn't wanna go spending money I don't really have on something thats not worth it, but if it's definitely a bargain I think I'll just need to :D
 
no no, it's from the place we get our feed, they have like a second hand shop where people can sell their stuff, very reputable :) it was owned by an older lady who gave up riding and she brought all her stuff in to sell, think she was just wanting rid of it. thanks though!
 
Will it fit your horse? Yes it's a bargain but not if it doesn't fit, and it certainly won't be a typical cob fit saddle (cobs vary a LOT though!).
 
As long as it has been checked for soundness you can always resell it for as much or more. On that basis i would probably go for it but don't get too attached until you know it's ok. Will they let you take it for trial?
 
If it fits your horse, snap their arm off!

ETA If you're not that clued up on saddles, how do you know it fits your horse? Please don't tell me by sticking three fingers under the gullet?

HUGE bargain! I have a very broad backed cob that has an Ideal VSD international event saddle XXW (like chickens teeth to get hold of) 10" D to D and 6" internal gullet that I paid £400 for and thought it was a bargain. As others have said just be careful it fits. I used a bendy graph ruler to get wither measurement and already researched the tree shape etc so had an idea that it would fit basically. Saddle fitter did the fine tuning and its like riding on your old comfy sofa. Good luck.
 
It's a good price but I don't find it that surprising.

I got an Ideal International Event used but in good condition from Ingatestone for £275.00 fitted by them. Fitter said the people who would have gone for that level of saddle are now buying adjustables. They were moving out of stocking them.

Crikey, when was this? Roger definitely wasn't up for selling anything secondhand when he came out to me in 2008.

About 2 1/2 years ago, I went up there and they do have a selection of secondhand on site, just by the cafe. I did have to be quite assertive but i had a horse on loan without a saddle and needed something I could sell on at the end of the loan.

I got the impression that he would take on high end secondhand saddles but not mid range.

I've had it on trial and had it checked to see if it fits and its perfect, the saddles been checked as well so I think I'm gonna go for it! :) cheers guys!

I've had it checked don't worry. I'm not completely clueless about the fitting, I was mean just generally with brands, pricing etc. :)
