Talk about shock and awe - how the hell can any council pay £30,000 to a man for being a senior lunchtime supervisor ?????????????

30000 £'s for supervising a lunchtime ?? flame me ???

I dread to think what someone important would have been paid?

and now the poor folk of Birmingham will have bin collections once a month, no streets will be swept, roads gritted or old people looked after.

If this is Birmingham Council - they should be ASHAMED - and they need to step into the real world,

A male cleaner was paid £16,000 - the world really has gone mad

Hope you are getting better GW.

I heard on the radio this morning that B'ham council have to pay out shed loads having just lost a case for inequality in their pay structures. They paid a bonus I believe to men that they didn't pay to women and have just been taken to court and lost. They said that services would have to be curtailed as they have to make huge cuts.

Thanks mate, going for phsio tomorrow so lets see if things improve then, as realy sore still.

They owe 748 MILLION !! for equal pay.....

748 MILLION - how the hell ???? -we could have brought Greece for that

Dont get me started on public sector waste :D

Are you sure that wasn't the guy in charge of all of the lunchtime supervisors all over Birmingham? In which case he would have been a manager in charge of a lot if staff.

Step away from the tabloid press . . . . .

Hmm not convinced this is true - have just looked at Lunchtime Supervisor position vacancies all over the country including Birmingham, the going rate appears to be £7-8 an hour and the job is only for between 5.9 and 7.5 hours a week.

ETA - here is an ad for Senior Lunchtime supervisor reflecting the salary for the Birmingham area

Where did you read this?

I have a friend who lives in Birmingham and he is a qualified doctor.
For many years he worked as a doctor and then went on to teach before taking some time away from work after his wife had an accident.

He recently applied for a job as a bin man because he said the pay was amazing and the hours suited him.

This is shocking! I work for a local authority, I have a masters degree, work over 10 hours over what i should a week (lost hours as no overtime) and don't earn 30k. Am obviously in the wrong line of work!

Agree with Paulag....beware of what you see in the tabloid press. I work for a LA...I have a degree from a proper university...& a 3year prof qualif. too. Both I & colleagues I work with work long hours & are totally committed to what we do. Non of us earn £30k for it either. Don't tar us all with the same brush..most of these type of stories usually are devoid of most of the facts & it seems easier to focus on public sector workers as whipping boys rather than properly look at & address all the other issues that cost this country so much.

Part time job.going at our local hospital fir £60k. It's a very fancy title although in reality it appears to.be an admin supervisor. Think I'll apply LOL
