I have just returned from HOYS and can recommend The Etap Hotel at Birmingham Airport. There is a free mono rail shuttle to the NEC which only takes a couple of minutes (and is FUN). The hotel only opened a couple of weeks ago, it is a budget hotel, very basic but as it is brand new it is absolutely fine. If you're off to the show and need a bed for the night and don't want to pay the over-inflated 'event' prices of other nearby hotels it does the job, the rooms (with loo and shower) can sleep up to three people (ours was a double bed and a single bunk above). We found the staff were fab.
