£500 Vets Bill

Well yesterday I took Georgie my Rotti to the vets as she had chewed her pad off on her foot and I mean chewed it off

..
They said she had an infection in her foot from the amount she had chewed it down

So gave her some Antirobe Antibiotics and some Rimadyl Pain Killers and they put a load of vet wrap on her foot (When has Vet Wrap ever been £9.00

Shocking

So got her home, she was not feeling her slef all evening was not eating her food.

Woke up this morning to find she had got all the vet wrap off and made it 20 times worse and there was yellow stuff and all sorts coming out in which she was shaking and could not put her foot to the floor.

Rang the vets this morning, they said bring her in straight away

(Sunday Fees out of hours not good

)..
They said they were going to flush it out and slice the pad so the puss could come out

so she was in the vets all day.
Got her home around 4.00pm and she is very sleepy with loads of vet wrap on right up to her of her leg.. So there is way she can get to it

They have given her some Piriton as they are thinking she chews her feet as she has an allergy to something

The thing is Gerogia has always chewed her feet, but this time she has really gone for it

So I have one very sad doggie.

Does anyone else have this problem with dogs chewing there feet?

There's a name for it - narco something. Buy one of those elizabethan collars from a big pet superstore (cheaper than vets) so she can't remove vetwrap and then stock up from local tack shop. Hope she's on the mend soon

She come home in one of those from the vets, and she did not move for about 2 hours

!!!!!!!!!!!!
We had to take it off, she was not a happy bunny with it on!

She was by the door and 2 hours later still stood by the door!

Bless her.. how awful having something irritating/annoying that makes you want to chew your own foot!!

Well yes that's what I thought - I mean it was down to to the flesh

and it was the big pad..

I think she can sleep in out bed tonight

I can not do it to her!!!!!!

She has been fine with not having it on, every time she goes near the Vetwrap I show her the collar!!!! she soon stops!

we charge £8 for a foot bandage - it's not just vetwrap, but the padding underneath, the time it takes and the skill of the person applying it.

definitely keep her buster collar on - it's the bane of our lives when people bring animals back who have chewed their stitches/bandages because they took the collar off - yes, they hate it but they have no logic and you cant explain to them that it's for the best not to itch the thing that's really itchy!

My rotti did this a few months ago......after standing in some nettles......I have a buster collar in the house(very handy)
The minute I saw her knawing at it.....I bathed it and put the buster collar on and it was good as new the next day......once they start to lick at an irritating spot they make it so much worse......the buster collars can be a life saver......not that I wud have had a big bill(working in the vets

) but I have no doubt she would have knawed the whole pad off given the option

the out of hours as u know would have bumped ya bill up a fair bit

but as STAR said its the staff time/skills that costs as well as the materiels/procedures.

Hope shes on the mend

Poor love. Hope she feels better soon.

I don't know if anyone has suggested this, but chewing on the feet is one of the classic signs of food allergies.

That's very intresting thank you for that.

Its funny she has always been on bakers since a pup, we then changed her food to some D&H food and in that period she did not have any problems with her feet..

She then went back onto bakers about a year ago and we have had the same problems with her feet.

She has to go back into the vets on Friday so I will say about that.

O no they charged me for all the other stuff as well, they gave me the bill with a break down of everything, and the Vwrap was just for the Vwrap

I am not saying about how poor they were with her or anything like that I was just saying that I can get Vwrap for £2

!!!

I am very pleased with everything they do in a vets, they work so hard, and when my dog had cancer last year I could not thank them enough for the help they gave him before he got p2s
