Hoping to get my horse out this weekend - mainly just to get her out and socialised.

I am looking at a local in hand show, hoping nobody expects too much.

A clean tail and good brush definitely, but too cold for a full bath and her clip is growing out very scraggy - but presumably a local Winter Woolies is just a low key warm up for everyone.

Or have I got this wrong, will everything with groomed, gleaming and aiming for perfection?

Winter woolies in my area is very competive!! Who's running it? Judge told my friend she was placed down the line as pony was clipped. Ponies turned out to a high standard in the WW shows I've attended. Are you going for experience or to do well?

Our winter woolies show is definitely just a warm up show. There’s classes for proper unclipped WW and then clipped, inhand, breeds etc. It’s laid back and had a mix of ‘enter for a day out’ and proper show horses.

I washed my ponies mane and tail as it’s white but left the rest.

“Winter woolies” doesn’t really mean anything, I’d expect to see some ponies gleaming as if it’s the middle of summer and others dragged in off their winter holiday!

Just be clean, tidy and enjoy your day. Don’t stress about polishing, scraggy coats are to be expected this time of year, overall manners and presentation are far more important, especially if just to get some experience.

Good luck!

you’ll get the people who are using it as a warm up for the season starting, with them clipped and polished to perfection, then the ones who’ve been dragged out the field and loaded up! a decent judge will be able to see a nice pony through a winter coat, get out and enjoy!

It's worth trying to find out the standard. There's one near me on 2 Feb but it's definitely not for my roughed off cob no matter how clean I get her!

depends on who is running it, whether breed society or local unaffiliated, do what's best for you and your horse, some will be gleaming, some will be hairy with dust a plenty, if its just for socialisation I wouldn't do too much, go and have fun!!!
