Just a bit of fun really

I have two dogs, one is very obviously a golden retriever, has his papers etc. The other came from a dog pound and I’ve always assumed he was some sort of collie cross, because he likes herding things and does that sorta crouch down thing etc.



Anyway, for various reasons he recently has a very dramatic haircut and now looks like a different dog which has got me thinking more about what breeds he might potentially have in him. I think he looks like a tall JRT now











Just adding a variety of photos & angles so you can see head & ear shape etc. He’s about springer size & 20kg (should probably be about 18kg…).

Any guesses appreciated

He’s a greater tongued bigger eared black dog. That’s the technical term.

I thought flatcoat cross looking at the top photo, after clipping looks more patterdale , could be a cross of the 2 ?

There's very few Flatties in Ireland so a cross is much less likely unless he wasn't originally from Ireland.

With his hair on he looks like my friends springer x collie. Without his hair he looks like a totally different dog. Zero help, I know.

I’d have a gamble on working cocker crossed with something else (a larger something else, could be the collie).

If he was bigger I might have guessed at collie x retriever but think spaniel more likely.

Appreciate the insights folks! I usually say he’s a collie crossed with satan, because he’s a fiery, energetic little dude… ie he is absolutely nuts… but I flippin love him, he makes me laugh every day! These suggestions are much more flattering

I'm guessing either Border Collie x Irish Setter, or Border Collie x Golden Retriever. When I googled Border Collie x Irish Setter, there's a few almost all black ones, e.g.

I first of all thought Flat Coat cross, but with a haircut he looks like a small Lab or Lab/Springer cross
