still nothing, horse off games and others don't need anything doing other than muck out and hay :/ trying not to get too gloomy about it all but is very frustrating that the first winter I didn't need to worry about schools freezing or the weather being too bad to ride is the first one with nothing in work! o_O

Lucky you Roxylola , I’d love a trip out to somerford at the minute. My yard is a bit to slippy to do much in the mornings, so have to wait until the sun has been out and defrosted everything.
We are hopefully going for a hack later on .. but will check the lanes before we set off . The gang are all quite happy though , they are out on a rested dry field . It’s only Aria ( who is in foal ) that actually wants to come in/ have fuss / pamper . The rest are happy to ignore me ? ... unless I take Wallace for a walk down the Lane. They think it’s great fun to follow us down the fence line . When I run , they do . Love that . Not sure what the walkers thought was going on mind ?

Mmm, hes not worked other than the walker since Monday as I've had no car and everything has been frozen. Its necessity at this point to go somewhere, I'm genuinely wondering about wearing my body protector for a dressage lesson ?

No plans here, lockdown until the end of the month apparently so no teaching or arena hire permitted, not that some venues aren’t taking note......
We had decided to give big horse a couple of weeks off, he’s been in full work since we got him so thought it was about time he had a holiday. He’s been off for 2 weeks now (save for one brief 20 jaunt on Boxing Day) so will give him another few days before we pick things up with him again. It has worked well as the weather has been mega cold & icy here, so arena no good and roads too slippery to hack on!

Field House Arena Eventig was cancelled but Somerford was a fab plan B. Katie we t XC schooling on immaculate arenas. And so quiet of course, because all the clinics were cancelled too. Then a snowstorm hit on the way home :eek: But we made it back safely.

Dolly was a STAR again. She gets better and better. Such a sweetheart too. I think she looks like she's smiling in that last pic!

Absolutely sod all this weekend. Lockdown and the weather have defeated me.

I did manage a walk hack today and I’m really really hoping I maybe able to school tomorrow but the arena hire and lesson sadly went out the window.

I survived! He went quite well actually - used his energy forwards rather than the up and down he sometimes does. I don't mind a forward horse at all, with him he gets tight and broncs rather than travelling though. I had to work in without my whip or headset but after the first 5 or 10 minutes we could crack on and work. Very pleased with him in fact, his work is improving all the time

I’ve finally submitted my PhD thesis so can join in with this again! Was planning to hack today but the (home, non horse) yard had so much black ice I couldn’t even get up to the car, let alone get it out of the yard and down the drive. Fingers crossed that we manage a beach hack tomorrow :D.

Our medium trot is coming along now
The first is his working stride, the second shows his medium - obviously compared with a dressage bred warmblood it's not going to score incredibly highly but he does a definite transition up and down now and counter canter is improving massively. He changed in front today and changed back rather than break or stay disunited which is huge progress

Hideous cold morning this morning. I’ve left my eriders tests to the very last minute so needed to record an elementary and 2 novice tests for the champs. It was so cold this morning even with 2 sets of gloves on AND hand warmers I still couldn’t use my fingers, I could have cried it was that cold. -2 when we recorded 3 very mediocre tests and I have come home having a massive flare up and my back has gone, so feeling very woe is me!
Dolly looks fab AP!
Roxy, the medium trot is looking great, I am looking on enviously!

Aw thanks Sprat, sorry you've not had a better day. Was a bit of an expensive way to fo things today, but he really needed to work and while we're frozen and likely to be for days we were going to have to box out somewhere. I'm just glad he went well, its still productive even when he's not so up for it but less fun for me and a very expensive setting to practise our airs above ground.
Looking at e-riders lots pf people are struggling, mediocre may be better than you think at the moment, but I hope you feel better soon

At least you managed to get out and about though, and have a productive session, albeit with the airs above ground. I suspect that’s all most will be doing for the foreseeable with comps cancelled. Still no word on AF’s, I will be gutted if we can’t go but such is life.

Thank you, I don’t often get mopey and whingey with fibro stuff but this one has really kicked the stuffing out of me.

Sorry to hear about everyone's weather problems. Am fortunate as home and yard are ok. Fields are holding up well. We have limited hacking anyway, mostly roads, but it’s not icy. Penny’s owner visited today and that went well which was nice. Hacked out in the sunshine for a change and although it was cold the brighter days always cheer me up.

Have decided to get going again and am checking out online dressage events - lots to choose from so any recommendations would be appreciated. I‘d prefer ones that do BD or BE tests. Our arena isn’t an exact 20x40 so not sure how best to set it up but will have a play around and see.

I’ve started the eriders online tests this year Bernster and have been impressed. They use BD judges as well as BD tests, are reasonably priced and have champs to aim for etc.

Both e-rider and dressage anywhere do BE and BD tests with listed judges. I'd say scores generally seem a smidge better than my BD scores, but that could be that they can slow things down or double check a movement easily. Good feedback from both though

I’ve used dressage anywhere for a while now. Always found them good, feedback is well detailed and useful.
The trick is to find a good video person, who can remember what way round landscape is on a phone and is confident with zoom.
Our riding clubs are also going online just now, BD tests and judges. Worth seeing if your local club is doing that?

Went up the gallops at kelsall today, he was a bit looky going up the first time but got some good strong canter work in both up and down - I forgot my watch so just used the furlong markers and his breathing to judge my pace etc. He's finding a slightly bigger stronger canter now just need to build on it, hes always going to struggle for time I think even at grassroots but I can help him by having him really fit.
I've got a liniment wash thing that I used after we got back to the yard as he was quite sweaty there. It obviously makes him really tingly as he was dancing round all over once I'd finished ?
Hope your foot settles down RB

Ooh, fingers crossed it goes down then.
Lucky you - are you northwest? One near us opens once or twice a month and does a draw, congrats anyway that looks a good haul.
Kelsall put a pic up of a racehorse going up the gallops in the snow on Facebook, we did our best but racehorse we are not

Those jumps look so cool with the snow on top! Somerford has such lovely surfaces - true "all weather"!

I always love the pictures of this combo. They always look so comfortable together. Such a partnership.
