What is the qualification now for a one day 1*?

Used to be a certain amount of clears XC Novice and then a 2 day Novice or an Intermediate

Still the same novices and a clear intermediate XC or 2DE XC
Other 1* would be Chepstow, or one of the Irish ones, ie Tattersalls, Punchestown

for a CIC* you only need to go clear round a few novices... and there is a CIC* in this country, at Gatcombe, or is that only for the 6yr olds??

PS. yes for a CCI* you need either a novice 2day or an Int

It's new for this year. It is at the September event, and was created primarily for the 6 yo's aiming for Le Lion, so they will get priority in a ballot, and being an FEI event ballot stickers won't apply. But I'm pretty sure it's open to all on paper.

I was led to believe that the CIC * did not count for qualification for a CCI* in this country its a European qualification hence its ok for Le Lion. You have to do the 2DE or Intermediate.

3 Novice (or CIC*) clear XC plus 2DN clear XC or Intermediate clear XC.
For early 1* have you thought about overseas?
Dijon is the same weekend as Houghton, Ede in Holland is in June as is Jardy (near Paris). You would need an FEI passport and the ferry would add to the cost but the entry fees are much lower than the UK. For Houghton Hall the entry is £305.50 plus £129.50 stabling so £435. I am considering going to Ede - the entry here is €200 plus 12.5CHF which works out about £142 including stabling and 3 meals per day for the rider and groom !

How much is it roughly to ship a lorry over on the ferry or tunnel though ?

Not sure - I think that the ferry cost is based on the length of the lorry. Livestock is not allowed through the tunnel. I suspect that the cost will be around the difference in the entry fees. A trip to the continent will feel more like a holiday though.

Bizarre that for a CCI** - you need intermediates with less than 20 penalties XC and a CIC** with less than 20 penalties XC but for a CCI* you need clear XC....

You could get to CCI** having never gone clear XC intermediate but not a CCI*
