So I am moving horse at the weekend, he is going to a new livery yard near the beach. I decided I am going to hack there - I haven't any transport and I thought it would be fun. I did the run in the car and it clocked 9.5 miles. I have done long hacks like this on horse and he has been fine, was going to take it steady and just walk with a little trot as he's not clipped yet.

He isn't the fastest walker, though my hubby is coming on his bike which will probably speed him up. I think a rest halfway for a flask and a snack. It's all roads, a bit undulating but no massive hills.

How long do you think it will take?

We did a 15 sponsored ride last Sunday in three hours didn't stop but didn't career round as one horse barefoot and lot of tracks.

Hi, if it's any help I did the country canter which was 10 miles last Sunday a little at canter and trot but most in walk( unfit horse) and it took 11/2 hours. Have fun.

We average just under 4 mph on the average hack (but that includes canters) so I would allow about 2.5 hrs or a bit over.

We've GPS'ed some of our rides and find our walk is 3.5-4mph, trot 6-8mph and canter 12mph upwards.
Assuming you take it all at a gentle walk I would expect it to take no more than 2 1/2 hours, even wih a 10 minute break to chill out.

aww thank you :D

she currently looks like a drowned miserable rat :( so given her a turnip with her hay as a special treat to make her feel better. so nice arent I?! better than lickits though ;)

Hi

I often hack to our most local show which is about 7 miles away. My horse has a very slow walk but fast trot.

It takes about 1 hour 40 min with mostly walking and the odd trot.

On the way back he strides out and walks far quicker and can do it in hour and fifteen, which is good as I can never wait to get back by then!

I agree about Posies horse being gorge!

Hi all! So we managed our 10 mile hack. Took us 3 1/2 hours as husbands bike got a puncture and he had to walk! I let him have a ride on horse for a bit though. Horse was nice and chilled for meeting his new mates, too tired for hooning about so good all round! Think I have earned a take away.

I did a 10 mile hack yesterday and it took me 2hr 44mins and that included a little trot and canter but mostly walking. But she was well on one and was a very speedy walk!

I moved today too...............and treated myself to takeaway!! ( and glass of wine too )

Well earned I think..............lucky you moving next to the beach

ha ha 1 hour 45? I reckoned about 2 1/2 hours for us with hubby on bike... At least then we could have done SOME trotting!!! But it was also rather warm for an unclipped polar bear, so prob better we took it steady!
