10 reasons why I should go back to being a showjumper...

[ QUOTE ]

For me eventers event for the love of the competition ( mainly a personal one ) where as a lot of SJers seem to crave status and seem very self important

only my observations

[/ QUOTE ]

*falls over in fits of laughter* Oh I wish I was worth a status over here *sigh* Sadly I have yet to do very well at BSJA, probably because as soon as I arrive I tend to have a defeatist attitude and, I have to admit, I feel like I don't belong

Let me know when I get successful enough to have any status

I SJ for the love of jumping - there is no buzz like it for me. Don't get me wrong - I enjoy XC but my horse doesn't!!!

[ QUOTE ]
Most showjumpers seem to work on the principle " I know I am over horsed and it is far too big for me but if I put some draw reins and a load of metal in its mouth it will look like I can ride it on the bit "

[/ QUOTE ]

Im actually starting to get really quite offended by this post. HOW DARE you try and tar all showjumpers with the same brush because of a few bad apples. Yes there are people who have delusions of granduer, but in my experience this happens in every sport.

I shouldnt have to defend myself.
mad.gif
I do what i do because i love it. I work bloody hard and whilst i am extremely proud of my achievements, i am always polite. Like i said before, there will always be good things and bad things about each sport, but is there really any need to try and fight over which is best?

Funnily enough though it seems to be the eventers on this post who are being narrowminded and looking down their nose at SJers!

At the end of the day, everyone has their own preferences for competition - you don't have to slag off somebody else's choice. There are rude and obnoxious people in all sports, including BD and BE - but that doesn't mean you should stereotype an entire discipline based on a few bad eggs.

Totally agree woth RosieFan, went to Towerlands the other week and left my tendon and fetlock boots on the lorry ramp, then went back and they had been stolen! Saw them in the next door lorry. went and approached them about them and they said it must have been a mistake. I was wild about it. especially as I had just saved their horse in the lorry who was fully tacked up and going mental in the lorry and broke his boots and was standing in one of their tack boxes. Was not impressed at all. But better looking blokes in show jumping though.

Kerilli....
I don't know his first name, but his surname began with A...If that's helpful? Daughter is CA...??

And Thistle - I love my SJ, and P is definately more of a showjumper than eventer. I saw BD said I was being fickle in my other post...It's a case of I prefer my SJ, but I event just to remind myself that actually there are some nice, helpful people out there, and that not everyone thinks that once you get to a certain level you are "God." Have a funny feeling though after this winter, P will SJ more than BE.

Have to agree with you xspiralx - I have met snotty people RC, PC, BD and BSJA and am starting to think that BE people have their fair share too now
crazy.gif

There are stereotypes in everything - I remember a post in here a month or so ago about what the "correct wear" was if you went eventing and suddenley the stereotypes came out then - a few examples being:
Beagler for dressage - because looking good is much more important then safety
5 point breastplate - whether you need it or not
etc etc
So I think maybe the SJ bashers should take a look at themselves and as Fee_Fee says not tar everyone with the same brush, we work just as hard at our discipline too

Wasn't my post - just repeating what it said (not that I can find the link for it!) That's fair enough if you don't like SJ but then you haven't been on this thread SJ'er bashing anyway
wink.gif
grin.gif

I wasn't SJer bashing! I was bashing one particular girl whose standard of dress (and public decency) left a lot to be desired. She could have worn the same outfit BD or BE (or indeed down her local nightclub) and I would have bashed just as hard!

Fee_fee - I know from your posts how hard you work at your SJ and how seriously you take it. I would much sooner applaud you than mock you! (and in case nobody has noticed I've been quite enjoying BSJA recently!)

You will find good and bad in every discipline...not just showjumping...and there will always be 'discussions' relating to who is better, which way is better etc etc. We should all just accept that there are different ways to skin a rabbit and what works for one may or may not be as suitable for another. There's no point bitching about things...life's too short for that...just enjoy your discipline and your day out and let other people worry about theirs.

I try and be polite to everyone at a show...it doesn't always work but more often than not i'll have a laugh and a chat with whoever'll listen. Occasionally nerves and or stress will get the better of me and i'll have a grumble...but hey, everyone's allowed an off day
tongue.gif

To those who think BSJA warm-ups are lacking discipline i'd say, yes, you're probably right on balance...but did you ever consider that it's as much down to the numbers of people in there at the same time as the lack of knowledge and understanding of them ? We don't get given a start time so often everyone turns up together and chaos ensues
tongue.gif

And to those who think SJ'ers over do the gadgets...i'd ask you to consider how many posts you read on here that refer to SJ'ers wanting to try a different bit or whatever compared to the number of eventer !? Virtually every BE report I read goes something like..."and onto the x-c where steering / breaking / control have been our issue in the past...so we tried him today in x..."
crazy.gif

BTW...I think x-c is cool....but i'm waaaay to scared to do it

*Respect*

Hey, I do have a sense of humour and there are enough sterotypical types BSJA that don't help matters (don't get me started on the lovely pics of Laura Renwick & co recently

) but think sometimes things get a bit too sharp on here at times.

Oh and I may fall slightly under the chav brigade as I do have a personalised jacket **hangs head in mock shame**
grin.gif

ETS not one of those BSJA jump jackets I hasten to add - I still jump in my old-fashioned black show jacket

I think this is down to the show center personally. Some do it very, very well - Hartpury for example where the warmup is amazing and very well run and not crazy crowded because they use the space they have. Other places do it very, very badly and for reasons best known to themselves do not use the space they have. It drives me nuts, but then again it does mean if Hartpury is on I will go there in preference to other, more local and easier to get to venues, and will usually jump at least 2 classes. Other venues I brave the warmup for one class then go home as it is so dire, vowing never to go back....until the horror has faded and I go again, and so the cycle continues!

And I'm definitely barely spatially aware enough to ride on the SAME rein as other people, let alone the opposite one

Jesus guys, this wasn't what this post was meant to be about, it wasn't meant to get nasty! From my point of view it was a joking post, as both sides accept there are stereotypes attatched to each sport (See OP, snooty little rich girls or words to that effect) and it was just a gentle poke at it. Like, "Eventers can't see a stride." This is not true of all eventers, neither is it true that all showjumpers are chavs - it's a stereotype, and one which can be mocked because it's so clear it's untrue!

That was just my point Nats_uk, things do get a bit sharp on here from time to time, but mainly because the written word can appear expressionless and no matter how many
smirk.gif
or
tongue.gif
or
wink.gif
you punctuate with, people will still take the hump about your post.

Let's all do like ISZ and I do at our AA meetings (tongue in cheek there, honest!), "My name is Nicky, I'm an eventer and I wear a beagler that makes my head look dome-like, a tweed jacket that has me near to fainting on hot days, and a 5 point breastplate that makes me think my horse looks like one of Pippa's".
