Ok I read the ad and it states 100% traffic..but on questioning its usually vague ....what would you expect a horse to be doing in traffic to be 100%?

thank you I am still looking

They have to be able to stop at a traffic light, indicate left and right, be able to watch out for cyclists and dog walkers and generally not be rude to other road users :D

It should mean that it dosent bat an eyelid with cars, vans, buses, lorries or tractors and motorbikes but I would happily allow mine to boot the side of a boy racers car if only i could work out how to train her to do it!

I would think it would mean good with cars/motorcyclists/HGVs/buses/ tractors etc but the number of ads that say 100% then I have been to visit and they have been " on the road in the past" or "somewhere else"? or in a "previous life" Or they dont really go on the roads!

Just checking I am not expecting too much from a horse to be 100% traffic

If it can understand the traffic lights/signal right and left/shout slow down that would be perfect.

Yeah I would say my horse is 100% in traffic, doesn't bat an eyelid at cars, buses, cyclists, walkers, cars with trailers, tractors, lorries, caravans, cars travelling at around 80mph, boats, canoes, surfboards (we live near a beach), campervans, scaffolding trucks, bin wagons, low flying RAF fighter jets. He fully ignores them, doesn't alter his path or change pace or tense up. I don't think he even registers them as a threat. He even waits at a junction until traffic has passed. lifts his head slightly if a motorbike passes.

However, sacks of garden waste are the work of Satan.

I think it's the way of some ads, unfortunately - could be embellishment like any other. You just need to push for absolute clarity and get them to spell anything like that out, rather than fill in any priority blanks yourself or reassure yourself.

Went to see a lovely sounding mare once who on viewing was hugely bad tempered towards everyone and everything, bucked with the owner, bucked with me, apparently bucked with a nervous viewer that morning but had 'never done anything like it before.' But it didn't seem to be an issue that they hadn't bothered getting her back checked that year. Was sad for the girl :(

Noble steed........ I have one just like yours then but retired even good with whooshing hot air balloons too! But man metal detecting in field is not good and as for the horse eating cows well that is another story! Give him an HGV/Air brakes/ siren police car 100miles hour no problemo!

i'd say 100% traffic meant that they would wlk past any type of vehicle wether its parked or moving. this includes trators, bin wagons, cars towing trailers etc

I asked for this didnt I!!

If only!

hee hee :D

Well, actually, apart from indicating (maybe I could teach him!!!), it pretty much sums mine up. He's well boring in traffic. I sometimes wish he'd do something silly so I don't fall asleep out hacking... he only comes to life when we see a field with an open gate............

I was once going for a quiet hack when a flipping huge steam engine puffed around the corner! That is a real test for a horse that hasn't seen one before as they smell alot, are massive and are very noisy.
