100 % Waterproof no fill LW rug.... do they actually exist

Rambo in comparison is about twice the price" eeek! are the really worth it?

IME, yes. I have known perfectly usable Rambos (a couple of patches and a replaced strap) that was 17 years old (it was a purple Wug, for those that know the rugs). I will be disappointed if my Duo doesn't make 15 years of use. Even now it has been good value. I think it was about £200 back when I bought it, so that is a cost of £18.18 per year, but that will go down as time goes on. I've never had it washed or reproofed. The liners get bunged in the washing machine and I wash the outer down with plain water if required before storing.

Do you have any friends with Horseware rugs? It would be worth trying one on your horse in the right size if you can, just to check that it fits as they don't adjust at the front. Or to see if you need to go up a size.

RE other makes, Bucas are good too (but NOT the sunshower). I do like the high denier weatherbeetas and high denier shires rugs. I have one Shires that is 2000 denier (stormcheeta?) and a typhoon that is also a good high denier shires rug. Basically I want a high denier outer, preferably made of nylon and a lining that is silky as my horses rub easily and cotton linings are a no go. A good fit is important too and some makes fit certain body types better than others.

Does anyone remember the Chaskit rugs with the "spider" straps ? Cost a bomb but were really good. Havent heard of them for a long time

I bought a cheapie Gallop fullneck, no fill at the end of Spring, because the rug she was using was worse than useless. You may remember that we had a LOT of rain in July. The rug kept her dry for several days at a time. If she needs another new one next year, they are cheap enough for it not to matter.

My PE 0g isn't bad - it gapes and leaks a little around the neck but is dry under the majority of the rug. I don't think any no fill rugs are truly waterproof in heavy rain. They're fine for showers but not torrential rain. For those conditions I'd go for a 40g or 50g. They're not particularly warm but it makes a huge difference to the waterproofing. It's a bit like a tent where you have to keep the liner and outer layer apart. If they touch, it allows water to seep through so the little bit of fill helps to keep them apart.

ETA - I would actually avoid buying too many rugs until you've gone through a winter with him. If he's a serial rug trasher , you're better off buying cheap and often. If he's ok with them you're better off investing in decent ones and really looking after them. I bought expensive one when I first had A and soon learned that wasn't a sensible option! As he's got older he's much better with them so he now has a couple of PE rugs that have lasted well so far.

I have both stable and turnout rugs in all weights from Swish Equestrian that I've had for 4 seasons now - 2 in the UK and now 2 in Australia. Can't fault them and my 1200 denier no fill still keeps my boy dry in the heaviest rain. They currently have a sale on their rugs so a good time to buy!
I found they are one of the few companies that also offer rugs up to extra large I.e. 7'3" with a generous drop and wide chest too.

Weatherbeeta gets my vote :) 1200D og fill with a long tail flap and well fitted. I didn't buy from sports direct but it wasn't too expensive...it's this make/model anyways: http://www.sportsdirect.com/weather...Dcf3cbXSdMm7b9XsrUvGGQm6L07yns7caAmRrEALw_wcB
Diva hasn't managed to rip it yet despite regularly walking into things  plus I thought this design was gorgeous :D

I do want to get her a 1680 denier light weight before autumn though but they are so expensive :(

If you are looking for good quality 1200 denier rugs at a reasonable price then I really rate Ruggles. I have the 50g and 100g fill ones. The 100g one is a year old now and not a single mark on it and is totally waterproof. I haven't used the 50g one yet. Probably will tonight as it will be colder. Unfortunately I don't have one of their no fill ones but will be buying one once my current one (1200 Derby House) gives up.

Another vote for Ruggles... first time buyer last year ... have a no fill and a 100g (both intentionally 1200D - don't entertain anything less - ever) and intend buying theirs again. Going to try with their neck covers too. They're good value for money. Only had a clip break so far (no issue - replaced with a clip on eBay) ... no complaints here - seems WProof so far!

I have HiZone rugs that are no fill and waterproof. They sell on the internet, but I have always bought mine from Your Horse Live. Reasonable price, my oldest rug is several years old now and still waterproof. But I don't wash the outdoor rugs, just give them a good brush and hang them in the sunshine.

Agree with this, he also may be a 'hot' horse and even with a full clip not need more than 200g in the depths of winter.

Another vote for Rambo. I've just had to bin one, but it was 17, and had been patched (excuberant field mates!).
I've never had any leak, or rub. The no fill supreme is a very useful rug, especially with a hot horse, and liners can be added. Mine is at least 5 and still looks new (after I've hosed mud off!).
I've also got a rhino, and it's good, but the Rambo is tougher and IMO worth the extra. Unless you have a rug wrecker, then investing in two good rugs works out cheaper in the long run.
I'm another who doesn't get them cleaned, just scrub with cold water in the spring. Liners go in washing machine.

I did try PE rugs. Horse and I didn't like as very heavy when wet. Sold them and bought the Rambo.

Bucas! I have one of their freedom turnout sheets if you're looking for something more in budget. Survives horrendous torrential rain with no leaks. True to size, fabulous rugs.

Another vote for Shires. If your after a budget rug I dont think you can beat them. I have the Shires Highlander no fill and its never leaked. I also have the Tempest 50g, again no leaking, tempest fly rug great too. I found the Amigo 1200d good, obviously Rambo but they are expensive and am a fan of Swish and Weatherbeeta too! I avoid Masta turnouts as Im told they leak but their stable rugs are fab.
