Well 'spose to be 1 acre for first horse, 1/2 acre for every horse thereafter. But depends on ground, i.e. if wet, sandy, etc. Personally I think it is all about how its looked after and whether they are out 24/7 or not

Personally I would put no more than 4 or 5 on 12 acres so you are not struggling for grass at any time of the year.

i have 10 horses on 6 1/2 acres....

it's managed well, rotated regularly and most importantly poo-picked every other day.

It's said that as a rough guide it's 1.5 acres for the first horse & 1 acre for each one there after. Personally I wouldn't really want more than 6/7 horses on 12 acres so I could rest pasture. It also depends if you want them out 24/7

I would think 3 or 4 on six acres of land depending on their size, maybe more if they are small native pony types and perhaps seven or eight on the twelve acres, once again, depending on their size and condition of the pasture.

Good pasture management is the key to thes things, I would think.

Hi there
The general guidance is for turnout (exercise during day and stabled at night) minimum of 1 acre per horse.
For full keep of your horse for the full year, in grass and hay as forage perhaps out all the time, the guidance is a hectare per horse (about 2.5 acres).
However, and this is a big however, it could be that your horse needs anything from 1/3 of an acre (lush clay soil, southern slope, down south) to 10 acres (rough moorland grazing, northern part of Britain)...so nothing is hard and fast.
Hope this helps you a bit
