Is it me, but I feel really uncomfortable with some of what is being broadcast. Maybe it's me, but you take a young pup out for its first walk totally off the lead and want to find dogs for it to meet just left me cold.
Is it me ?

Was that the same owner that let the pup be bullied mercilessly by her friend's bull terrier pup, to the point it had to lash out in terror? She had some really odd hang-ups about dog behaviour, but then did exactly the opposite of what would be needed to prevent the behaviours she was so worried about.

Yes, I thought that was so cruel too poor little mite, I agree if anything was going to turn a pup aggressive then that was the way to go.

My pup just turned five months old and I have yet to 'take her for a walk'. Some people intent on grinding their babies bones and joints into the pavement and content for completely unregulated interactions with inappropriate adult dogs seem shocked by this.

It’s funny you should say this. I’ve always been cautious about not doing too much with any of my youngsters, and walks are taken sparingly—particularly when my roughs were younger as they just constantly crashed about and ended up lame (it’s a breed thing!) but with corgi Sherman tank, due to personal circumstances, she really didn’t get ‘walked’ until a similar age as yours. Maybe about six months actually. She went out places and did things etc and, generally, she’s the most easy going and well rounded dog in different situations, with different dogs etc that I’ve ever had.

That's it, she's been to the vet, the beach, the forest, the running track, the training club, the local green, the feed place, a competition with other dogs. But just so she can have a looksee and get fed in different places. She doesn't need to be 'taken for a walk' yet in the same way as I wouldn't expect a toddler to do a route march. And certainly not to tear arse around with strange dogs.

It's not just you. I'm not even a dog owner but I was cringing at the bull terrier play date. Her pup was such a nice little chap, too. The commentary is a real irritation and does nothing to educate people. Some of the owners are so silly it's jaw-dropping.

I also find it a bit odd that the BBC, which made such a big deal about dropping Crufts because of breed 'issues' is only too happy to describe the husky/chi cross as a 'new breed'.

Small dog is coming up to 2.5 years old and has still yet to tear arse around with a single strange dog we've met on a walk, that has got to be one of the most harmful perpetual myths around 'socialisation', yet people will look at you aghast if you say you don't let your dog play with others and think it cruel or snobbish.

And yes, the beddy owner with the strange hang-ups was not even the most disappointing bit of that show. I don't know why I watched it, not good for the blood pressure. The great dane in a first floor flat, piddling gallons on a stack of puppy pads!

Maybe it's a working/competition thing. My latest one is 4 months (springer) and has been to plenty of places (Aldi carpark on Christmas Eve!!) but only to see things and get treats. My spaniels don't go for walks as such until they're probably 2yo. They get plenty of exercise training and playing in the dog meadow with the rest of the spanners

I am so glad it's not just me. I find the st bernard owner mans attitude horrid to that wee pup. It's totally cringe worthy to watch. I think I like 2 of the owners, the one lot who had the trainer right from the start choosing the pup and the ones who had issues with the frenchie style pup who was 12 weeks when they got the pup so had missed out on being introduced to the great outdoors. The others I frankly want to slap.
When did puppy prams become a thing?, yes for an old or partially sited dog to get to somewhere, but pushing a puppy round in a pram, I just don't get it unless pup is injured.

That was a sad story, the kid must feel awful.
