Just out of interest, i had a guy out this morning to plan/quote for internal stables for DIY livery yard.

For those of you on DIY livery, do you have 12 x 12 stables? And do you think 12 x 12 stables are fine?

Also this guy was from Bradmore Stables, very helpful and gave lots of useful info. Anyone used them? Any experience of them?

Thanks, Claire

Most of the DIY yards I have been on mainly have 12 x 12 stables.
They serve a purpose, but in an ideal world I would want bigger.
Both mine have 12x12's though

Our stables at the yard are 12x10 and they are perect size IMO... my 16h TB looks just right in his... infact if he didn't have so much bedding in his he'd look lost!!

my 15.3hh mw mare has been in 12x10, 12x12 and now is currently in 16x20. I have to say shes managed to get cast in all but the 16x20! I think this is probably due to her more than the stable size - she even managed to get cast in a foaling box!!!

My stables have ranged in size from 11x10 through to 16x14 however most were 12x12 and to be honest this size is the best size as it fits every horse. My stables over here are 11x10 and 11x20 and they seem to work okay too (only used them a couple of times though) ; even my big 16.3hh fits happily in them.

For a livery yard I would suggest you go for a standard size such as 12x12 though as this is what horse owners expect and know.

mine are in a 12 x 10, but have been in smaller!
There fine but in an ideal world again of course id like a 20 x 20 lol!!
12 x 12 is fairly standard, id say go for it!

Thanks everyone for all your replies, they're all very helpful.

I just wanted to make sure, just in case all you hard to please liveries were demanding huge stables, lol!!!!

To be honest i love 12x12 stables, one of my stables is 20x16 and its so big that it takes ages to muck out and takes a huge amount of straw to fill it. Then the horses will go and stand on the concrete bit and poo on the straw! lol. So annoying.
