Is there a major difference other than the weight and thickness? Hoping to matt the whole stable, someone said get the 17mm as they are less likely to move about and lift but if the 12mm ones are fitted properly then surely they won't move? Just cautious as I get awful back problems that flare up and if I can get away with the thinner ones then I would prefer them as easier to lift and clean but I don't want them to move about and get bedding stuck underneath!

My 12mm doesn’t move, it’s bloody impossible to move it! No way could I lift 17mm! You could, if it’s a permanent stable, get the liquid stuff which would obviously be seamless.

I use the 12mm at the back of the stable under the banks and use the heavier mats at the front where there is a lot of foot traffic and movement. Seems to work well but they are fitted tightly which stops them rucking up. One on Aubiose and the other wood pellets with straw on top.

We have 17mm mats and they are a nightmare if they ever need moving. Takes two of us to move each mat even with hand grips! Ive Just looked at the website where we bought ours the 17mm are 38kgs each and the 12mm are 27.5kgs. I’d probably go for the 12mm if buying again.

I bought the thicker stuff for a new stable this year and the thinner stuff for the feed room. It’s only the actual channels that contribute to the depth. The actual surface at the top is the same on both depths, so the deeper mats aren’t actually any stronger. I’d probably just buy the smaller ones next time.

The first stable I did was 17mm, the second, third and fourth are 12mm. Wouldn't do another in 17mm now as they are so heavy and awkward. The 12mm dont move if they are fitted properly wall to wall

I went for the 28mm Equimats, on the grounds they recommend them for horses over 600kg and Blue isn't too far off that. They haven't budged a millimetre since I put them down, but they're SO heavy that I ended up paying the yard's resident handyman to fit them for me. The thought of moving them was definitely a factor in choosing to stay on my current yard when I was having issues with another livery!

Apparently they're 21kg each, but they feel a hell of a lot heavier.
