Hiya,

What are the chances of a 4 year old (last month) 13.2hh New Forest Pony gaining any height over the next couple of years? Even one inch would be great.

Do you know if they mature late or not?

Sorry a bit borning, but thanks.

Completely depends on many factors. Look in to the parents heights, and if their lines do mature late. May well grow to 14hh or, just fill out and stay the same.

Well Doug is a nf x welsh and when I first had him he was 13.1hh, he is now just touching 14hh at nearly 5 years old

My friend's fully registered New Forest stopped growing at 6 and she was 14hh then. My NFxTB is 5 or 6 (unsure of exact age) and is still growing... he's 14.1hh at the moment and vet thinks he could make another inch. There is definitley a chance it will grow

Both of mine filled out rather than up but both give the impression of being bigger because of their width and breadth if you see what i mean - LOL Neither are fat.

My smaller one topped out at 13.3 from 13.2 at 6 yrs old, my just turned 5 yr old i thought was 14hh last Sept but he looks and rides bigger at the moment so he may have gained a tiny bit, i'll have to get my measure out again.

He may grow a little.
He may end up 13.3 or 14hh if you are lucky. What he will do is fill out and muscle up which will make him look bigger. Foresters take up a lot of leg so a tall rider can ride them.

Thank you very much for your comments.

I don't know who her parents are as I think she may have the wrong passport. She was bought direct from the New Forest unhandled and on her passport she is supposed to have a brand on her back. No sign of a brand at all (even when the area was clipped for freeze marking). Contacted the owner on her passport and he wasn't very helpful. Also New Forest Society didn't have much to say either.

Just thankful she is a lovely pony and has a home for life.
