Hi I'm looking for another horse and have seen one suitable but he is 14.1hh and wondered if he will be too small for me. He is a chunky cob but I am 5ft 7 and weigh roughly 10st 7, would i be too heavy or look silly on him? Thanks

im 5ft 6 and weigh 9.5 st, my youngster is just about 14hh and i ride him, he doesnt mind the weight, my feet dont come past his tummy but i do look a bit tall on him, but no body has said im too big for him xxx

If he is true cob, you'll be fine
The depth of girth and substance will take up your height

A HW SHow cob is aimed at 'Carry More than 14 stone' and a 'LW at 12.5 stone' - and they are only a hand taller.

1), you won't look silly on him
2) You're DEFINATELY not too heavy for him, if he has plenty of bone, these cobs can carry 15 stone easily

I'm 5' 7'' and weigh more than you, and ride a 14 1hh Highland, she hunts all day with me, no probs at all.

10 and a half stone, on a 14hh cob? He'll probably barely know you're there ! I don't think you'll look silly either. Even if you did look silly (by which I assume you mean tall), who cares? I look a bit silly on my horse as i am small and she is large, but I don't care a bit ! I feel comfortable on her, she works well for me, other people's views on how silly we might look are largely irrelevant.

Weight wise you are really light, so that isn't an issue at all on a cob of that size. Why don't you get someone to take a photo of you on him and then you can see where your legs are on him.

I'm 5'8" and weigh just under 11 stone at the moment. My mum's haflinger pony is 14 hands as is still growing as he is only coming up 4 now. He has no problem carrying me. The only downside is I feel a little top heavy as I'm used to riding my 17 hand dressage horse but Marco doesn't find it an issue at all. A 14 hand cob will take more weight than most 15.2 TB types.

You are going to have so much fun, if you buy that cob. You'll look fine on him, I have a 14.2 cobby type and she's brilliant.

btw - I'm 5'9" and I'm not saying how much I weigh

My 21 yr old pony (14.2hh) takes me out no problem and I am slightly heavier than you (although used to be about a stone heavier and he was still fine) he's not cobby as such but he's ceratainly not fine built and gies me a run for my money - think he needs the extra weight to carry!!

I weigh an awful lot more and ride a 14.3.hh cob

ditto and ditto, and I swear he doesn't always know I'm there.
Mind you, he's spectacularly thick!
Though very happy ......

Def. not! I weight a few pounds less and am alot shorter but look fine on a 13.3 cob and he can still tank me and jump 4 foot.
