If someone suggested a 14.1hh pony carrying 25 stone we'd all be horrified, wouldn't we?!

Well, I worked out that before Murphy lost weight, he was carrying an extra 15 and a bit stone himself, plus me on top, makes about 25 stone! Scary

I wouldn't let someone weighing 15 stone ride him in the first place, but there he was dragging round 15 stone of his own fat!!

It is worrying to think what strain that must have put on his joints and organs. It looks like spring is finally springing here, so time to get those good doers and natives on their diets!

well done you
i know how hard it is to get it off!
i worked out that between me & harvey last year we lost 10 stone!!

Food for thought. However, I bought my 14.3hh MW irish cob from a riding school 6 years ago. During his time with them, they regularily had a 22 stone rider (who was trying to lose weight) on him, as he was her favourite. He's a good weight for his height and type, 450 kg, and I weigh a good less than 22 stone. He is 17 now and he is fit and healthy, but I do wonder what long term problems it has caused. Oh yes and said riding school was BHS approved.

That certainly is food for thought!
Mine is always on a diet, but I'm going to invest in a grazing muzzle for her. Should be able to up her exercise soon with the better weather and longer nights.

Years ago the yard I was at also had a bit of a riding school and trekking centre with a mixture of Dales, Fells, Exmoors as well as horses.
For a week we had about 20 American students descend so we put them up on everything except the bosses stallion and my TB.
One lad was huge and he couldn't ride other than basic western style so we put him on a low slung heavyweight old fashioned Fell who was about 7 years of age and this lad and this Fell were made for one another and the Fell would trundle just as if he were carrying the 20 stone of lead he was designed to carry at the back of the trekking line and the rider was besotted with him and wanted to take him back to the States.
I used to hunter trial this Fell as well in Senior classes.
