Also, there was a pit bull in a caged area which was not destroyed! But I have read another article that says it was a Jack Russell??

You do not have packs of dogs living in small urban housing.

Agreed. Surely part of our dangerous dogs legislation should include 'environment'.
 
It is all just so unworkable.
It is such an awful thing, that poor, poor girl and her family. My condolences go to all concerned.
 
What a terrible attack on a vunerable defenceless girl. No one would ever be able to defend themselves against 4/5 dogs in a frenzy.

When my dog was attacked by 2 Staffies a few years ago (my dog was on a lead, they were running free with a 10yr old lad!) it was only with the help of a passer by that we managed to get them away from us, my poor boy was trying so hard to defend me, it was so frightening not being able to get away. I doubt the 10 yr old lad ever walked them again he was so shaken!

This is just another reason why I think all Dog owners/Breeders should be licensed.
 
This happened locally to me :( my OHs parents are friends with the girls parents...
Such a tragedy and waste of life. Just goes to show its the owners not the breed! I know so many lovely staffies and bullmastiffs.

Apparently the 'man of the house' had trained the dogs to be aggressive.

Well in that case the man of the house should be prosecuted.
