My friend has got a 15'' Barnsby saddle for sale, its a wide. I was going to borrow it this week and try it out on Buddie, but then I thought about trying it on Bear?
I know my bum fits in a 15'', but would that be OK for him? Obviously if it fits him width ect, but would the size make any difference? He wears a 16'' ATM.

yes - you can put too small a saddle on your horse and it puts all your weight in too small an area. But you need to speak to an expert and have them look at your horse. I very rarely use a 15" saddle on anything over 13'2 as their backs require something longer and the rider is a child who will grow.

Seriously? We use a 14 inch on our 10hh shetland! That's for a three year old child! Okay, she's as tall as any 5 year old, but by age 8 she'll need a 15 inch.

My bum fits in a 15 inch, but in reality I need a 17 inch. I'm not huge either, 5'5 and a size 12 bottom. As said before you have to be able to distrubute your (adult) weight over this pony's back properly.

Thanks for that guys, I wont bother with that one then lol! I might try it on the tubby sec A, I dont want to do any damage even if it does fit in the right places.

I'll stick to the idea of a wintec for a year till he stops growing and then get him a nice english leather saddle!

wow, you can fit your bum in a 15" saddle, lucky you! i'm only size 10, but i think i'd struggle to ride in a saddle that small. my 13hh pony used to have a 15", and i could ride in it, but found it really uncomfortable after riding in my horses saddle, and that was a cpl of years ago when i was size 8. she has a 16" now, which means i can ride without my arse being squashed! i'd agree about getting it checked - the size will affect weight distribution, and probably how you balance as well.
