Doodle is going from strength to strength! Her footiness is steadily improving, though they have gone on the summer grazing today so will be taking a very close eye! Her soundness is also really improved, so much so we have been exploring a new venture for her and thinking of trying adult mounted games :D, we have done a little practise and not only was she pretty awesome, she stayed sound as a pound :D.

However we aren't quite there really yet, she is still a little unsure on uneven ground even with boots on and comes out of the stable quite tentatively at first though does seem to walk that off. Anyway enough waffle pictures :D.

Not sure this is bruising or dirt? Don't remember seeing bruising :o.

Slowly getting there I think :).

I love her feet, they just look so weird! :p Sorry!

I bet she feels much better with those feet, and I'm with you on the grass! I'm not taking mine off it every day now, as they've moved onto their less rich field, but still going to take him off it on the days I have time. I still worry he's not landing right! :p

:D Poor Doodle! Will have to post some pretty pictures of her so she doesn't feel so insulted :D;).

I think she's feeling better, certainly when turned out this morning she was like a spring lamb, never seen moves like that from her before :D. Fingers crossed the grass doesn't set us back, I spend a lot of time watching her feet and how she puts them down :o.

They are looking a bit better.

I'm relieved to see that she, too, hasn't dropped her frog to the floor yet on off fore- I was getting a bit panicky about Jams (7 weeks 3 days and counting, because I haven't ridden her since day 3 personally). What are you doing to stimulate the frogs? Have you got pads in her boots?

I'm also intrigued to see matching wear on the toes - are you walking up and down hills quite a bit? Jams has one hoof (off fore) that has no frog contact - I like to call this her withered arm. She did go quite lame on it about two weeks after the shoes came off and I strongly suspect that she was slightly lame on it in shoes on and off. But she's not landing heel first yet and we have a lot of hills.

Anyway, you are my leader in this, so am thrilled at Doodle's progress.

Haha we have no idea really :D.

Frogs are improving lots believe it or not :o, we tried pads in her boots but they didn't really work for us, so we're just trying to work her bare over a varity of surfaces (I say work, walking over :o). I'm sure we can speed up the process with a bit more work/stimulation but for her we're happy with progress, she's moving so much better so we're happy to take a slower pace.

Her toes have been trimmed back by my trimmer as they were super long, I was fairly intrigued by his trim but she seems very comfy still and it actually mirrors what we tried to do with shoes for years, by bringing back her breakover point. We do some hill work on our hacks (very lucky we're not too flat round here), so lots of slow marching up and down hills do help, but she's out in her boots for this so not too much self trimming yet.

I've been very lucky that Doodle starting going heel first quite quickly and although went very footsore for a while, we son't seem to have gone lame again yet (touching all wood)! Hope to see a progress report from you soon :).

I am very interested in your pics Alex as it has given me something to compare my boy to. He has been barefoot since the end of December and I had issues with one heel higher than the other and really long toes, it's taken 6 weeks at his new yard to get them level and he stands on a hard paddock for half the day and is on restricted grazing for 4 hours. He doesn't have any hard feed and is on a small net of straw and hay at night. He is still quite footy on rough ground but with his Scoot boots he is really sound. Hoping to start riding him in the next two weeks or so if he stays sound.

It's a long road but the change in Doodle is really good and you must be pleased with her progress.

Ah sounds like your boy is doing really well, fantastic! Super pleased with her progress, especially with all her issues :).

Definitely looking better and glad to hear she's feeling better and sounder too :) Would be interested to know how you get on with adult mounted games as it's something I would love to have a go at but it seems like some kind of secret society that I can't figure out how to get into (Also not sure if my pony is too big as he's about 14.3 we think (although maybe he's shrunk since his feet are no longer quite as horrendously long!)

Doodle is also round the 14.3hh mark but I'm positive you could measure her in at 14.2hh now :o.

We've been introduced to it as a lady on the yard did mounted games with her child, and she said they are looking for adults for the adult team. We've not managed to get to a practise yet but hopefully will in the next few weeks, I can let you know how we get on and the ins and outs if you like? If you let me know whereabouts you are I can ask if they know your local team.

It will be a test of her soundness but we're keeping everything crossed as it will suit her to a t :D.

Just look at that lovely new angle she's growing her new hoof. Give her another 6 months and you won't recognise those old feet, and it will be so much better for her joints and muscles too. Great work OP.

The new angle is so extreme! I will have to dig her first photos out to compare when it's all grown down. Her inside edge of her near fore is still mega odd but she seems comfier so will stick with it. She must be feeling so much better as the moves she was pulling when they changed field were impressive :D. I've never seen her like that before so she must be feeling well! I'm so happy I listened to my gut and took her shoes off, yes she's an old crock but she's my old crock and she has so much more to give :).
