15h cob - max rider weight?

It depends. Do you have any pics? It depends on:

Condition score of the cob - is he overweight himself?
Age
Fitness
Conformation

If all of these are ideal then I would say 15 stone max plus riding gear and tack.

he is 10, not as fit as he should be thanks to this horrible winter but sound and healthy - when i say not fit i mean in lack of muscle tone rather than weight - hes not lost any weight over winter to the extent i shall be soaking hay once the frosts have gone - hes a very very good doer - im not sure how to upload pics here and ive no really recent ones anyway :(

As said here. I think the general 'rule' is 1 stone per 1hh.

Unsure if he is a heavy weight, whether he would carry more?

I would also think some types of treeless would exclude heavy weights as some show pressure points through flexibility.

ah ty - definitely not looking at 15 stone - more like 13. ty :)

You should be fine then. The HW 14 hh cob here carries his 15 stone rider and looks quite happy. But she only rides him once or twice a week. When she rides him more often or does more demanding work with him, he does get very stiff and is obviously sore.

My boyfriend is 15 stone, & can't ride. The odd time he does its on a 15hh hw cob. Said cob looks an awful lot bigger, & is as wide as he is high almost. He is very fit & regular rider works him correctly, & is nothing but solid muscle. Even if yours isn't as stocky or fit, I can't imagine many healthy, average build 15hh cobs struggling with 13 stone.

ty - this will be for half an hour twice a week in the school, nothing too strenuous

Hi all , I'm looking at buying a 14h highland pony mare as a mother/daughter share. These are suppose to be very good weight carriers. I need a weight carrier to carry 13-14st adult but also something small enough for my 8 year old to learn to ride on. Any advice? Am I looking at the right kind of horse? Or would a Haflinger or cob around 14h be more suitable??? Thanks in advance for your info.
