16hh.... 5'8" rider!

I'm 5'8, and my horse is 16.1hh...

Mind you I think Exmoors have that sort of reputation, I seem to recall reading once that they could carry an 11 stone man all day!

Whilst it is possible to look too big or small on a horse/pony I think the statue and build of the horse has more to do with whether they can carry you than their height. In particular I tend to think the wider the horse the more leg length you can lose LOL

I'm 5'8 and have a 16hh mare - she's only a skinny racing type... And she manages to make me look like a pea on a mountain top!

It's about what you find comfortable, not what the rest of the world consider the right height!

Andiamo you look far too tall for that horse but I will be kind and give it a good home :D

What a lovely looking horse (and I am joking about you being too tall, in case it's not obvious!) :D

Haha!! that's kind of you to offer him a home :D , but he has one already :)
Thanks for the compliment, your comment made me laugh :p

You're the same height and weight as me.

I'm happiest on something about 16.2 and middleweight as they take up my leg without feeling too big. 17hh and lightweight and 16hh and heavy also feel 'big enough'. However I easily ride anything from 15hh upwards and certainly don't feel huge.

It depends greatly on their girth depth though: a 15hh heavy cob will feel and look much bigger than a 16hh twiglet: I've ridden 16.2hh wafer-thin TB's who I feel ridiculous one :o

She's 15.2 and fairly deep chested

15.3 and not particularly deep chested

16.2, built like a brick house and I looked small on her most times!

15.1 and suprisingly deep and wide

and nearly 15hh and really not wide for a cob (and hence looking far too big :()

I'm only a teeny bit lighter than you, she still manages airs above the ground so I have no worries!

Me on a 15.2hh TB
