You would need to do an interrogation .
I am riding and jumping and hunting with hip replacement one would have to hope the horse was not the reason the hip got broken .
If it's in sales livery you would need to be doubly cautious .
How old are those pictures ? If they are taken for sale ones try to get to see some of the owner doing stuff with him in the past .
It seems a good price perhaps he's been out of work a while .
 
Googled the number and it's for a riding school/livery yard. Dropped them an email but it's a fair trek away and I don't have a pro I can take that far, nor do I trust myself without a professional now!

Just looks like a lovely chap to be that cheap!

If its a hip replacement thats due to wear to the joint and not a broken hip the owner probably wants him sold fairly quickly to save on livery costs. Is there anyone in that sort of area that would go with you and look/video for you? he could be worth a try and looks like he is genuine and straightforwards as he does not have half a tack shop on to do the x-c and cantering with other horse. it could be worth you emailing and asking for more info and videos, as if he is in a riding school livery yard you should be able to try him hacking alone and with others that go ahead of him as well as in an arena

Hi, the horse is for sale at Court Equestrian which is close to me. I don't know it but I can make some enquiries via the riding club I belong to, to see if anyone knows anything about Claire Pendleton who owns it. TBH the horse does seem a bit cheap but from the ad it looks like a nice uncomplicated riding club sort
 
I think you'd need to try him. If he has reasonable schooling then he may be a good buy. I was searching for a horse, mid teens that had some schooling however many I tried that were advertised very similar to this advert knew nothing. What is said in the advert is one thing but what the horse is really like & what the horse actually knows is something often very different. Just because a horse has jumped some show jumps & jumped some rustic fences doesn't mean he's schooled. I was amazed what sellers considered a schooled horse was, most I saw certainly weren't.

I found one, 11 year old, still a little green but had the basics, a great attitude & was very willing to learn. He had some flatwork, could jump coloured fences & rustics, sailed through vetting & was cheaper than the grey. They are out there & when realistically priced they sell well. Some buyers think that unless you are prepared to spend £4-£5k minimum you won't get a nice capable horse. You don't have to spend that if you really look around. :)

I tend to always carefully look at what an ad DOESN'T SAY, especially when posted by a professional who should be able to sell a horse to its best advantage. This ad doesn't say whether the horse is good to hack alone or in company, or whether it is good in traffic. It doesn't say whether he is good to box, shoe or clip or how he is to handle on the ground or has any vices. It says he has a bold jump and has been show jumping and XC schooling, but he could still knock all the jumps down, hate water unless following a lead horse, nap jumping away from other horses etc.

I know that sounds really negative, but an advert is often called upon as evidence if a horse is not described, so clever vendors try not to put anything incriminating in the ad! Doesn't necessarily rule the horse out, but do check out all the omitted virtues carefully if they are important to you!

I agree, all good points. Very short advert. No harm in asking all these questions as he does look lovely.
 
If you look hard enough, there's other pics about the internet of him being ridden by (what I presume to be) his owner.
I don't think he's owned by the RS owner.


ETA: In the pics he looks quite strong but nothing scary!!
 
Going to play devils advocate here
I like the look of him, seems to have a nice pop on him & looks genuine when out xc.
He is quite cheap I would say the owner will be paying for sales livery so probably wants him gone quickly, that said if you are paying for sales livery I would want him out doing a few competitions building up his experience so he could be a 4k horse, wouldn't take long.
I agree about the missing bits out of the advert, but that said i hate long winded adverts that describe exactly how they behave to pick up each hoof!
The other thing that strikes me is lack of a side on confirmation shot, good dealers/producers know how important this is so it concerns me that they have "left it out" makes me question the horse & the yard selling.
That said ask for 1 to be emailed & ask a few of the right questions & i would definitely take a look if the responses were positive. As a horse from those pics i like him :)
