17 yr old going to jail for shooting donkey with newborn. Baby rescued

Wicked young man. I was only reading an article yesterday that was saying, most murderers had started off by killing or abusing animals. So lock the thug up!! Longer i say. He knows right from wrong at that age.

How can you even contimplate doing something like that?! Sickos all of them! These people should not be let out. As you've all said god knows what he'll do in a few years time!

I wonder how young this type of behavior starts to show? Don't family members or friends notice?!

At least the baby was immediately rescued and well cared for. He's living with two friends who are orphaned calves.

omg, poor poor donkey

I think this is the most worrying aspect of this. The only strong correlation between later psychopathic crimes (including multiple murders) and early signs, is the killing and torturing of animals. I doubt a year in prison (or 10 years for that matter) will make much of a difference. He'll probably be as dangerous when he gets out

I think you're right Booboss - a prison sentence is hopelessly inadequate and simply functions as a punishment - and not a particularly severe one at that!

I hate what he did.
However, I wonder what sort of life leads you to make a decision like that, and whether prison will really help him, or just confirm him on the wrong path.
It's so easy to judge other people by what you would do, from your world view; it's a lot harder to make the effort to understand.

... sadly society is going or has gone down the toilet because we have too many hand wringing do gooding twats trying to "understand" this sort of dangerous and sick individual... we need to help them understand why we find there behaviour unacseptable and protect society from them with a long and hard time in a proper prison not a kind of holiday camp we call a prison now.. oh and jail the criminals too

Prison doesn't generally help anyone understand anything, other than make connections to other criminals, take drugs and become institutionalised.

The main problem is that this guy may well be dangerous. A prison sentence of whatever length other than for life is highly unlikely to help in any way, and may make him even more dangerous. The fundamental question for me is what do we do to make him less likely to be dangerous in the future. Throw him in jail by all means and keep him there for 10 years if you want, but if he goes on to do worst things when he eventually comes out, the major problem has not been solved.

In B.C. Canada two men are about to go on trial for STRANGLING a horse.
The horse community out there is in such a rage, they have mobilized to be at the courthouse when those lowlifes go to trial.
How do you even come up with a punishment STRONG enough for that?
