Morning all

My 17yo otherwise very healthy border boy is on Loxicom daily, his joints have had an active Cornish life, and this to date has been the most effective pain relief. We are however noticing that there is more heat in his joints and there is swelling, the vets are happy that loxicom is upped in dosage, but he is succeptable to gastro problems when we do this. Can you recommend any supplements or alternative options that you have found to work with your dogs? He is watching his weight and swims daily in the sea.
Thanks in advance.

My old girl was on Codeine (prescription from vet and bought from chemist, around £8 per month and made a huge difference) alongside Onsior and also had Yumove (advance but I think it’s had a name change since).

I have just started my dog on Yumove (£5 special offer on a month's supply at the moment btw) and it has really made a difference.

I believe Loxicom can be quite notorious for dodgy tummies. Willow couldn't take it when she had her knees done.

YuMove is fab. I just have the normal one for Button but the advanced one has allsorts of additional extras.

Supplements like Yumove are simply that - supplements.

The best person to advise you is your vet and I would suggest asking your vet if additional medications would be helpful.

I am probably not explaining this very well - because I am not a vet - but there are layers of pain. There is pain from the affected joint, which progresses to pain and muscle spasm in the tissues surrounding the joint and finally, with time, this progresses to neuropathic pain and additional medications are needed to treat that.

Combinations of drugs can be given to achieve optimum pain management, drugs like Pardale V and Amantadine or Gabapentin can be added to your dog's regime but your vet is the only person who can advise you and prescribe the drugs which would be most beneficial for your dog.

Mums old collie is on a combination of things, both begin with ‘m’ but that’s as much as I remember. Both get prescribed.

My elderley JRT is on Riaflex. He was very stiff and doddery in a morning, since starting on the Riaflex he bounces out in a morning, has a fabulous coat and plenty of energy. It was recommended on here and I'm glad I tried it.
