Hi!

I rescued a section A foal a year ago. He was taken off his mom too early we suspect and was so poor, it took ages to get him upto health. He’s now 20 months old but no sign of any testicles dropping. My only other horses are mares so he is currently living with them but has started to act really colty. Mounting alot (willy isnt actually coming out), prancing and rearing in hand, lots of nipping.

Seperating him from my mares isnt an option, especially long term. Has anyone had experience of this and do i just bite the bullet and pay for him to be done as a rig?

Welsh often have a retained testicle (especially the smaller ones) - looks like in your case it's two. I'd call the vet and have a chat with them. It might be that he's going to need a rather price operation to sort.

In the meantime I'd look for youngstock livery somewhere away from your mares. He's going to be a pain in the back side until it gets sorted and your mares are either going to get pee'd off and hurt him or come in season and cause even more issues.

My colt had a retained one - under GA the vet was just about able to get it, but we were expecting a big bill and a long recovery.
