Goodness, this thread reminds me that I am old! First pony in 1968 cost £70 from an advert in the Farmers Guardian. A full set of shoes cost 10/- (ten shillings) and we used to hack to the forge a mile away. Shoes didn't seem to last longer than seven weeks, as we wore them out. Stabling and grazing was also 10/- a week. No one that I knew owned a rug, which didn't seem to matter as we were not allowed winter turnout.
